Year of birth

[edit]

The ADB (see References in article) states: "In March 1793 he joined the Bellerophon, shown on the muster roll as his father's servant, aged 14" which implies c.1779 althought the heading gives 1785. I have written to the ADB contacts and they are investigating. Diverman 02:27, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion History

[edit]

The first paragraph says he was promoted to Rear-Admiral in 1831, the third paragraph says it was in 1856. Should that be promoted to Captain in 1831? His entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography at <http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A010498b.htm> says he was promoted to the rank of Commander in 1814 and given the command of HM Brig Scylla in 1830, although the size of that vessel would probably not have entitled him to be called Captain. Peter Bell (talk) 03:43, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hullo, is there anyone out there? Five years later, the article still says he was made rear-admiral in both 1831 and 1856. Peter Bell (talk) 08:18, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed this, citing sources for his promotions to lieutenant, commander, captain, and his promotion to rear admiral on the retired list.-- Toddy1 (talk) 23:46, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
