Google for kate.garry.hudson yields about 580 results, so I reinserted the middle name. Please give a good reason (here) for removing it. --Taejo 20:53, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is most assuredly her middle name - according to her birth certificate, anyway. :) Mad Jack 19:15, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

I was wondering if we had any kind of better picture that we could get for this article? JackO'Lantern 05:21, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am actually VERY sure that the picture is of Judy Greer not Kate Hudson.

Father's ancestry

[edit]

Does anyone have a reliable source (i.e. not the IMDB or trivia sites that copy us or them) that her paternal grandparents were Sicilian immigrants? This interview [1] is the only reliable source where Hudson says she is part Italian (and Hungarian and Jewish). Mad Jack 05:22, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My cousin Roseanne went out with one of the Hudson brothers in the 60s and that's when I first heard that he was of Sicilian ancestry. Not exactly a reliable source, would be considered hearsay in a court of law - but I'll keep digging. [Anonymous] 01:25, 24 June 2006 PST

From this family tree[2], it's clear her paternal grandfather was not Italian. They made a mistake and said a "Bryna Sangel" was her grandmother - but that was actually Kirk Douglas' mother, they must have gotten her name from his family tree - a mix up or something. So Kate Hudson's grandmother might have been Italian or Sicilian. Mad Jack 08:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sicilians are italians...

She said at Corriere della Sera (most important italian newspaper) father is neapolitan...

what is the bizarre obsession with ethnicity in Wikipedia bios? Who cares? Uucp 19:27, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
sometime it can help (when Tim McGraw said to be part italian, NIAF honored him), sometime it's an obsession...

About Adam

[edit]

One of Kate's (in my opinion) best films was About Adam, yet it seems to be not referenced on her filmography. What gives?

It's there now! Thanks Mad Jack 15:44, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Divorce

[edit]

It was on CNN this morning that she is splitting from Chris Robinson. I am not a great writer or into the wiki thing so I will let some one else edit this into the article, just giving you guys the heads up.

Here's a link: http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/14/hudson.reut/index.html

It's in the article :) Mad Jack 17:03, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

Hello, the biography section of the page has been vandalised, and I cannot see the content in the editor to change it. Can someone look into this? Also this discussion page was edited with the comment "is it true that she is a nigger?" left at the bottom.

Thanks, Chris. EDIT: this has now been removed!

"Jewish American actress"

[edit]

I previously changed this to just "American actress" but it has since been changed back. I wanted to get some discussion here as to which form should be used. The article states she is not very religious (and also practiced Buddhism) and that her father's ancestors are English and Italian, while her mother's are Hungarian Jewish, although the Goldie Hawn article lists Hawn as only having Jewish ancestry on her mother's side (so she is, at most, a "quarter Jewish" American actress). Consequently, I think labeling her "Jewish American" makes little sense; in fact, I think combined terms like that only really make sense if someone can really be associated with multiple countries (i.e., "Einstein was a German-American scientist") or if their ethnic identity is a major, notable part of who they are (i.e., "Joe Pesci is an Italian-American actor"). Kate Hudson fits neither, so we could just as easily write "Hudson is an Italian-Jewish-Buddhist-Hungarian-English American actress". I think we should just leave them all out. The remainder of the article addresses her "Jewishness" quite well without the puzzling introductory sentence.

I have once again removed the adjective but would welcome any thoughts on the matter. --SuperNova |T|C| 23:20, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Goldie's mom is Jewish. That would make Goldie whole Jewish because according to the Jewish religion, if the mother is Jewish, then the child is automatically Jewish. And since Goldie's Jewish, then Kate is whole Jewish as well. It doesn't matter if Kate also practices Buddhism. There are alot of Jews like that. Personally, I don't think that a person's practices should be limited to what their religion says. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LeeMulod333 (talkcontribs) 12:14, January 21, 2007

That's ridiculous. So a person with only 50 of 100 Jews in ancestry is more Jewish than person with 99? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ymirbayed (talkcontribs) 17:10, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of how being Jewish passes down matrilineally, and in no way am I asserting Hudson isn't Jewish. My point is that her being Jewish doesn't belong in the opening sentence of her article. Like I said above, she's not known primarily for being Jewish; in fact, I bet most people who are familiar with her probably don't even know that. I think it's a fairly insignificant aspect of her biography that's being over-emphasized here, which is not only misleading, but against Wikipedia's policies. --SuperNova |T|C| 19:29, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very simple: she belongs to judaism, it means, she is jewish. Monroe has no jewish ancestry at all, but she was jewish because of her religion — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.69.54.173 (talk) 08:03, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are alot of people who are identified as Jews in the opening sentence. Even Kate describes herself as a Jew and an American so if she is identified as an American in the opening sentence, then she can be identified as Jewish.

Although Kate Hudson is definitely Jewish, that shouldn't be mentioned in the first paragraph. See WP:MOSBIO, which helps us out with such issues and states that only nationality should be mentioned in the opening, and ethnicity/religion not mentioned unless it is part of the reason why the person is famous:
    1. 3 Nationality (In the normal case this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen or national, or was a citizen when the person became notable. Ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability.)

Mad Jack 18:14, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jack. I knew there had to be an official guideline somewhere, and that pretty much echoes what common sense told me it would be. I'll make the appropriate change now. Thanks for looking that up! --SuperNova |T|C| 22:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then how come in other people's opening paragraphs, they say that they are Jewish, Christian, Muslim, etc?

It shouldn't say that if it does. You can (and should!) certainly remove such mentions from the opening sentence under WP:MOSBIO, since 99.9% of the time, that person isn't famous for being of a certain religion and ethnicity. Mad Jack 00:17, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The statement about Hudson's ethnicity definitely needs to be removed from the opening line. As others have pointed out, the issue is raised later in the article and this is sufficient. Ethnicity and ancestry are not the material for an opening line unless they are the reason for a persons notabilty. Hudsons 'Jewishness' or level of such is not being debated here, only the relevance of this to the opening statement of the article. It should and is included in the article and nobody is saying it shouldn't be. However, fervent inclusion of Hudson being Jewish in the first line of the article could be seen as profiling of the actress on the basis of ethnicity. There are reasons for the rules in wikipedia and if you are not prepared to follow them you should not edit. Tinkstar1985 08:28, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would also like to remind participants in this discussion that responses should be made at the end of a section, signed with four ~ and preferably preceded by one more : than the post before yours. Thanks guys.Tinkstar1985 08:35, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Her father's last name was anglicized to "Hudson" from a presumably Sicilian surname. Goldie Hawn's mother was an Ashkenazi Jew who happened to be of Hungarian extraction. She's not Hungarian. I don't claim to be Russian, Polish, Czech, Romanian and Lithuanian just because my Jewish ancestors lived there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.94.42.235 (talk) 00:47, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Daughter of Goldie Hawn

Wouldn't you think this info is important enough to mention on the 1st paragraph? Thanks Kvsh5 (talk) 17:39, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pregnancy reports

[edit]

I just edited the sentence about her pregnancy. I wanted to remove it completely, although I can see there's been a lot of editing about it. In my view, it's too speculative to include in the article. As I reworded it to conform to the articles, it's based on unnamed sources. It would be better to wait for something more definitive. Unless there's a clear consensus to leave it in, I plan to remove it.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:13, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to agree. This isn't a tabloid, and I'm sure if it is true further evidence will become available. AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:45, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kate's stepfather Kurt Russell spoke to people magazine saying that he hopes her baby will be a girl. [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.61.216.74 (talk) 21:53, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kate herself has confirmed the pregnancy. She talked about it here: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20461221,00.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by AWfan (talkcontribs) 01:31, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like a reasonable request - the locking admin has unprotected the article. Off2riorob (talk) 11:33, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Watching her on Letterman right now, & yep, very muchly pregnant. Said she's hoping for a girl, father Bellamy etc. Straight from the horse's mouth. Surprised nothing's been added yet, must be reliable refs for this.121.73.221.187 (talk) 12:28, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
