I removed some libelous information like that she was an MP for Mogadishu, had dictatorial insticts etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattyness (talkcontribs) 21:12, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Voting against the party line

[edit]

The claim she voted against the party line in March 2007 is based on a major flaw in The Public Whip's methodology. That site determines loyalty or rebellion on the basis of how the majority of MPs from a party vote, not on the official party whip. So an MP can appear to be rebelling against the party line when in fact they were in the minority in their party on a free vote.

The March 2007 votes referenced included three on the composition for a reformed House of Lords where Labour had a free vote [1] [2] [3] - note that she was in the same lobby as many Labour ministers on all three votes. The fourth occasion is even more technical as it was on the procedural motion "I beg to move, That the House do sit in private" but in practice seems to have served as a formal quorum check. McCarthy was a teller for the Ayes, as was a Labour frontbencher, with all 25 MPs, including a few Labour ministers, voting in the Noes, which looks like it was a complete formality. There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 05:27, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
