More Ill-Fitting Inclusions/Exclusions

[edit]

Seems to be a lot of things out of place here. Alesis and E-MU Systems seem to only make drum machines and hardware synths. Beyerdynamics seems to only make audio equipment. Cümbüş, or at least, the page that links to Cumbus, is an instrument. Harmony Company seems to have made guitars and guitar parts. Hohner seems to make only harmonicas, recorders, and accordions. Walter Light and American Drum Manufacturing Company probably don't need to be on this list at the same time. Peavey seems to only make electric guitars and guitar amps. Simmons used to make drum machines and electric drum kits, should they really be included? Zendrum is a midi controller. If someone is more sure about any of the companies listed, they can take it off, because I'm not incredibly familiar with any of them, but it seems like most of these need to go. Inclusions/Exclusions

[edit]

The list title is a "List of drum makes", so should be restricted to just that. AFAIK, the Avedis Zildjian Company (Zildjian) only make cymbals and, according to their WP article "also sells drum-related accessories, such as drum sticks and cymbal bags." Unless Zildjian actually make drums, I don't think they should be in this list - cymbals and drum-sticks are not drums. I think a line of prose at the head of the list explaining what is included/excluded should avoid future questions and/or disputes.Arjayay (talk) 16:54, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP is not a directory. This list should consist entirely of links to WP articles on drum makers/makes, or names with neutral sources showing notability. a generic link to a website that promotes drum makers is not adequate. we need to either test each name here for notability, or just remove the unlinked ones. Regarding Zildjian, i am neutral.(mercurywoodrose)75.61.134.173 (talk) 03:19, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree - most of the names without articles just use a link to the companies own sales-site, which does not prove any notability whatsoever.
I think a strict rule of "No En.Wikipedia article = no inclusion" should be adopted - Arjayay (talk) 09:45, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There does not seem to be any objection to my suggestion "No En.Wikipedia article = no inclusion" made nearly 9 months ago - any other comments/suggestions before I implement this? - Arjayay (talk) 17:30, 21 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is full of links to not yet existent articles. It helps to encourage their creation. This list really ought to be an actual comprehensive list of drum manufacturers, not just a "List of drum manufacturers with a Wikipedia page". Going to add Taye back. They are indeed a notable manufacturer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xichael (talkcontribs) 18:00, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

fixup

[edit]

removing all unsourced names, and will add the names from category percussion instrument manufacturers. I have added prose to include cymbals, but that is arguable. this is now a list of Makers, not Makes. I dont see a lot of evidence for needing a list of particular models of drum sets, outside the manufacturers articles. Mercurywoodrose (talk) 18:41, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Nice cleanup, but I'm concerned that the 3 column style is less readable than a single column. Perhaps it is due to a lack of white space between columns, with the [edit] link next to the adjacent column, but I think the readability could be a bit better. Since this isn't a terribly long list, nor would I expect it to be, I think a single column would be more readable and easier on the eyes, plus easier to find a particular link. Not wanting to be WP:BOLD and edit it yet, since you have put effort into it and would like your opinion. Dennis Brown (talk) 14:21, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stupid notice

[edit]

In adding an entry to the list, I encountered the notice, "Attention editors! Every entry in this list must have an article written to support inclusion, else it will be promptly removed."

This is pretty ridiculous. The article is List of drum manufacturers, and not "List of drum manufacturers that happen to have their own Wikipedia article."

There are, after all, many extant corporations, including drum manufacturers, that don't happen to have Wikipedia articles. What good is the list if they are all left off? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.89.176.249 (talk) 01:32, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We don't want an indiscriminate list of manufacturers, just the "notable" ones.
The simplest way of ensuring that is that the manufacturer has their own article, as, to have and retain an article, the subject must be "notable". It is the same on articles about other musical instruments, such as guitars etc. and almost every other list on Wikipedia. If you want your addition to stay then Write the article first - Arjayay (talk) 11:03, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

C&C Drum Co.

[edit]

C&C Drum Co. should be on this list. Very common and popular amongst well known bands. Ncrabb1 (talk) 05:55, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
