Is this an encyclopedic article? Why flags of other nations?

[edit]

I don't understand this article. It is extremely poor in my opinion. It is titled Flags of the United States, but many are not U.S. flags.

  • There is no source on the U.S. flags shown. For instance the 13 star flag shown has no historical proof. There may have been numerous 13 star flags including the circular Betsy Ross Flag design as is mentioned in that article. The 13 star flag show in really a 1912 navy Boat Flag. 13 star flags with this pattern are known, but one design had 6-pointed stars (Francis Hopkinson flag).
  • Putting any and all striped flags is not needed as the source may have not been the U.S. flag. Stripes are consistent with European heraldry, and may not derive from the U.S. flag.
  • The article would be better if it features examples of historical flags of the U.S. as well as state, territorial, governmental, and military flags of the United States. Links can be provided if articles exists such as Flags of the American Revolution.

I recommend that the article be cleaned of these non-American flags and feature only flags important in U.S. history.
