Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on June 13, 2011.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that the London Necropolis Railway was used to relocate the exhumed contents of at least 21 London graveyards to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey?

Transportation of gravestones

[edit]

Would the railway have also transported gravestones made for the cemetery, or was there a monumental mason's works adjacent Brookwood Cemetery?Cloptonson (talk) 10:49, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Probably found some answer to my own question - I see this article mentions a "masonry works" operational until the 1980s.Cloptonson (talk) 10:59, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested trimming

[edit]

As this article would be expected to be about the history and workings of the railway company and its lines, I suggest the section on the "London Burial Crisis" could be trimmed if not totally deleted, as much of the information is also mentioned in the sister article on the London Necropolis Company.Cloptonson (talk) 10:53, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, absolutely, go for it. Afterbrunel (talk) 14:10, 4 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
