This page needs a scholarly edit and fact checking, e.g., re. "while at the same time the Portuguese arrived in southern India, seizing many of the ports on the western coast that the Vijayanagara Empire had once controlled" Vasco da Gamma did not reach the SW coast of India until 1498, well after Mallikarjuna had ceased to rule.
