Alpinism

This is a controversial decision to count the medal for Alpinism in 1924. The IOC counts this medal in the Medal Table section of article [1], however, neither further down the same page in the Detailed Results section, nor anywhere else on its website, does it mention the sport of Alpinism as a recognized sport, and does not show the results for Alpinism events. Thus, it is unclear from the source, whether the IOC currently recognizes the results for Alpinism in 1924 as official, or whether it simply summed up the results of "official" and "unofficial" competitions in the medal table for 1924. Given the inconsistency of the data on the IOC website, I am not calling for removing the information about the medal for Alpinism from this article, but I want to note that following the same logic, when medals are counted in the Medal Tables sections, but are absent from the Detailed Results sections, we also should take into account:

Art Competitions 1912 - 6 medals
Art Competitions 1920 - 11 medals
Art Competitions 1924 - 14 medals
Art Competitions 1928 - 29 medals
Art Competitions 1932 - 23 medals
Art Competitions 1936 - 32 medals

@Nitobus I do agree that there needs to be consistency across all related articles w.r.t whether these have to be included. It might do good for this to be discussed on a larger forum perhaps, so that others can weigh in. Magentic Manifestations (talk) 05:17, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
