Sirius sponsorship

[edit]

What happened to the Sirius Satellite Radio sponsorship? --Bigtop (tk|cb|em|ea) 16:03, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dunno; they just decided not to renew, probably because they're going to have the entire NASCAR season next year. -- DiegoTehMexican 14:20, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Images centurionglen webphoto.jpg

[edit]

Image:Images centurionglen webphoto.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Constant name changes

[edit]

I'm just curious; would it NOT be easier to generalise the names of all of the pages for Sprint Cup races? The sponsor or official name of the race changes for most races each year, which make for what I'm sure is much exhaustive work to change all of the names (and links) of pages pertaining to each race. Perhaps pages could be called California (Spring) and California (Fall), or Bristol (Day) and Bristol (Night), or what have you; something constant. Just a suggestion; to me that would seem easier than changing the names each year. 97.125.92.220 (talk) 05:50, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rename to 'NASCAR Cup Series races at Watkins Glen' or some other sensible title

[edit]

As far as I can tell there have never been any other Nascar Cup Series races held at Watkins Glen other than the races this article is referring to. I may be wrong of course, as articles on Nascar races on Wikipedia tend to be titled in a manner which is extremely confusing to outsiders and often seem to lack logical redirects. Constantly changing the title of the article to something which only represents the most recent race(s) is nonsensical. At present the man on the Clapham omnibus would, without strong existing knowledge of the article's subject, assume that this is an article about a bowling alley. Wikipedia's purpose is to serve as a general encyclopaedia, not a repository of pedantic trivia for those who already deeply invested in a subject. There is also the issue that insisting on using WP:OFFICIAL names will make it very easy for any astroturfing marketer who wants to use Wikipedia to make the product they are promoting seem more "legitimate" or whatever to do so by simply arguing "well that's the official title", thus potentially threatening Wikipedia's perceived neutrality. Almost any independent source I can find which is not in some way obviously incentivised to use official names (be it directly through sponsorship agreements or indirectly through access journalism) for Nascar Cup Series races at Watkins Glen will consistently refer to them as "the 1996 Cup Series race at Watkins Glen" or whatever and not by the sponsor name. 2A02:C7F:DC08:9000:514F:3A7:8D8D:C406 (talk) 20:42, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically. Zrcook610 (talk) 16:55, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NASCAR Cup races at Watkins GlenNASCAR Cup Series at Watkins Glen – Consistency with lower series pages for similar purpose in "[series] at [track]" format (see NASCAR Xfinity Series at Martinsville as an example). (There was an attempt above but it was procedurally closed due to lack of reasoning... and it was by a sock, no less.) FMecha (to talk|to see log) 09:28, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
