History

[edit]

I think a paragraph that gives a summary of the NZCF would be useful. I think showing where the NZCF of today came from would be important information. I don't propose quite the level of information that was present before though. - Shudda talk 10:35, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm currently rewriting the article; should be finished in a couple of days. Brian | (Talk) 23:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Any chance of a link to the unfinished article so we can possibly comment pre-release Liberator 02:23, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
sure; have a look here Brian | (Talk) 04:12, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

rewrite 2

[edit]

Done a complete rewrite of the article, excluding the History section. I've added quite a bit of new content, referenced most of the article, moved opinionated content to separate section, fixed up errors and cleaned up the style. --Timephoenix 09:54, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commandants Tenure

[edit]

My memory might fail me, but when i first joined in 1999, Commander Granville was finishing his term as Commandant, with Castell starting in early 2000, she was offered an extension as that was going to be her last post in the Army. Correct me if I'm wrong? 116.93.140.205 (talk) 00:02, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tamaki Leadership Centre

[edit]

The NZCF now calls the Whangaparoa Training Centre the Tamaki Leadership Centre (TLC). I am attending the Senior Leaders Course coming up (July), and the Warning Order states: 'The course will be held at The Tamaki Leadership Centre (TLC), formerly the Whangaparoa Training Centre'. Changed this in the wiki page. Wes45 (talk) 01:38, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pay

[edit]

The Pay section has incorrect information because I know NCO's get paid for staffing courses as well but I don't know the full details so can't update it myself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crash123 (talkcontribs) 11:09, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shooting Coaches/RSO

[edit]

Added the Shooting Coaches Course and the Range Safety Officer Course to the list of Tri-Corps Courses available. Wes45 (talk) 01:34, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Major Overhaul / Rewrite - 2021 / 1

[edit]

Thought the page and subordinate pages could use an overhaul. The history was from several units history banks on the NZCF plus public information and a little bit of my own experience. ATC got the most attention because that's my background.

I've tried to update it to reflect current the NZCF situation but sometimes the changes are to frequent to be noteworthy. E.g the organizational structure completely changing the responsibility of the XO three times in two years (possibly hyperbole). I've also used the NZDF page as a kind of template and tried to order all the NZCF pages similarly.

I've also added a new page. History of the NZCF Commandant which is linked a couple times throughout the page. On on that page I've also added the national and area warrant officers as I think it's a wicked achievement both for the organisation and the respective cadet, and part of NZCF history.

I've got a bunch ( currently at 80ish gigabytes) of documents and photos from my research that I'm still pouring through. I will add more as I'm able to summarize it.

Some of the sources are documents I'm sure HQNZCF won't want public so I'm not always able to directly cite my sources. But I promise to the best of my knowledge it's all true. Majorconvenience (talk) 13:58, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Major Overhaul / Rewrite - 2021 / 2

[edit]

Brief summary of changes

- Medals is now medals and awards and includes every award currently available to all (non corps specific) personnel. Added images of each award where able.

- Changed service eligibility to include a section on adult cadets and supplementary staff. Also redone the fees section to be a little more forthcoming

- Added VMAV poster to VMAV section (although it's missing the A in VMAV).

- Complete overhaul of the courses section. Better descriptors and clear availability for different groups of the NZCF. Added section on staffing courses.

- Modified the Firearms section to Equipment and added vehicles currently operated by the NZCF. Added images of DPTA, Marlin XT, and NZCF livery on vehicles.

- Some grammar fixes and small rewrites to basically everything to finish off.

Forward

Things that could have been added but haven't been (for various reasons)

- The NZCF were attempting to acquire the NZ Army's old IW Steyrs for the purpose of replacing the DPTA. However I believe there were issues with cost ($400,000 I believe to make all of them non-functional) and public image surrounding youth with army rifles (even though every other country with a cadet force allows it).

- The Marlin XTs have come to the end of their service life and are due for replacement.

    • Edited because I've added these sections in.

Controversies

[edit]

I've added a controversies section, this in itself could possibly be controversial. While it's possible this may bring the reputation of the orgnanisation into disrepute, I feel it's important to note that Wikipedia is not a NZCF asset and therefore is not subject to the NZCF code of conduct. Also I've done my best to only put in facts and the truth and not speculate at all. There are more controversies I'm working on that may or may not be included in the future, depending entirely on whether I can find adequate references and quotable sources.

If anyone disagrees with what has been included or the phrasing or content, I'm happy to engage in a discussion. However, please remember that these incidents, both the ones that have been included and those that haven't lay the foundations for the modern organisation. I've always been told "Safety rules are written in blood" and that means being able to reflect and learn from negative events such as these. While it may be embarrassing or even harmful for the reputation of the New Zealand Cadet Forces for such events to be included, it would be unjust and quite frankly unfair not to include these topics.

Again, happy to discuss it with anyone if need be. Majorconvenience (talk) 01:36, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Cadets

[edit]

Added a notable cadets section. No tense is attached because I intend to add at least one serving member of the NZCF (SQNLDR Sinclair for the curious). If anyone knows of any other notable personnel then please post here, or add it to the chart yourself. Majorconvenience (talk) 00:14, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
