Anyone got birth date? Westendgirl (talk) 19:21, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I found this Ancestry info at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=vbowen&id=I000051 As that is potentially a primary source, I've just written up a summary and left it here. This is information that needs to be confirmed. ′(B. 21 December 1942 in Amber Valley, Alberta, d. 1 January 2000 in Calgary, ALberta)

He graduated from the University of Alberta on 30 May 1965 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. His parents were Obadiah Bowen and Eva Mae Mapp (b. 12 APR 1913 in Edmonton, Alberta).

In 1965, Bowen was hired as Calgary's first special projects engineer, holding responsibility for construction of the city's major arterial roads and expressways.

In Sept 1977, he joined the transportation department and was promoted to Manager of Light Rail Transportation construction and implementation.

After the CTrain was completed, Bowen worked for Daon Development Corporation for 3.5 years as Calgary residential project manager. In November 1984, he returned to City of Calgary as Director of the Transportation Department, holding the position until his retirement in 1998. He oversaw 1800 people and travelled internationally to share his knowledge with other cities and to evaluate the Calgary train system. The Calgary CTrain is considered one of the most efficient LRT systems in North America. After his retirement, Bowen started a consulting firm (Bowen Enterprises Ltd.) that managed major proposals for LRT in least developed nations. In Fall 1997, he was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. He died 1 January 2000 in Calgary.

Unfortunately that ancestry.com source may not be reliable. If someone has access to newspaper archives, that may yield better results. --Animalparty! (talk) 20:08, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. So I've left it there if someone wants to confirm it. Westendgirl (talk) 23:55, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
