Tuning

[edit]

The only historically recorded tuning for the six-string pardessus is g, c', e', a', d,'', g'', given in the method book by Corrette and required, for example, to play the chord a c' e' a' that occurs in Thomas Marc's compositions for the six-string pardessus.

The tuning with f' instead of e' seems to have been introduced for the "hochdiskant neue fidel," a different instrument, in the 20th century: see the German Wikipedia article "fidel". Several string makers seem to think that this is also the tuning for the six-string pardessus, but that idea is simply incorrect and the players know better.

I have revised the article's paragraph on tuning accordingly. Gambaguru (talk) 21:31, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
