Here are four closely related topics that Wikipedia should cover:

  1. stereographic projection and its role as the equal-angle hemispherical projection
  2. Pole figure, Wulff net, and stereonet (used to picture the equal-angle projection)
  3. equal-area hemispherical projection
  4. Schmidt net (used to picture the equal-area projection)

I think that the articles on Pole figure and Wulff net should be merged.

Furthermore, the merged Pole figure/Wulff net could be merged into the Stereographic projection article. Alternatively, the merged Pole figure/Wulff net could be merged into a new article that discusses the equal-area/Schmidt net stuff as well, in a parallel treatment. In fact, I am writing just such an article now: User:Joshuardavis/Hemispherical projection.

So my question is, How many articles do we want on these topics, and which ones should they be? Joshua R. Davis (talk) 00:28, 9 December 2007 (UTC) (Typo fixed in revision.)[reply]

Update: The equal-area projection and Schmidt nets are now treated at Lambert azimuthal equal-area projection. The Wulff net article has been merged into Stereographic projection. Should this Pole figure article also be merged into Stereographic projection? Joshua R. Davis (talk) 19:40, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
