Not individuals who are qualified from 2015 World Champs

[edit]

Some editors are apparently confused about the qualification process, and have been adding (to this page and to other pages) the names of individual competitors from the 2015 World Champs as if it is those individuals who are qualified to race in Rio next year.

To quote the IOC document (ref 1 from this page):

"The quota places are allocated to the NOCs.

For quota places obtained at the African, Asian, Latin American and European Continental Qualification regattas and the Final Qualification regatta, the rowers that qualified the boat(s) at these events have to compete in the same boat class should they compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

For quota places obtained at the 2015 World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette, France, the NOC may enter a boat with different rowers at the 2016 Olympic Games than those who qualified the boat and these rowers may row in different events at the Olympic Games than those in which they competed in 2015."

Hence when the continental & final qual regattas take place, it is only those individuals who are permitted to take up the places gained at those regattas, but for boats qualified this week in Aiguebelette the competitors in 2016 may well be different from those who raced this year. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:42, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reading the rules again carefully, even the individuals who qualify at the continental & final qual regattas might be replaced in those boats, but in that case those individuals aren't allowed to compete in a different event. - David Biddulph (talk) 16:20, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Uruguay

[edit]

Note says that Uruguay had to chose between Men's Single Sculls and Lightweight Men's Double Sculls and yet is listed as having qualified in neither. The note says that they chose the Lightweight event, but the three countries listed as having qualified are Brazil, Cuba and Mexico... E1tiger (talk) 12:22, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was obviously confused and have removed the note. I don't know why VEN are listed in M1x instead of URU, as URU are shown in 6th place in the results at http://results.imas-sport.com/imas/race.php?competition=wettkampf_160&race_id=11#oben . --David Biddulph (talk) 12:49, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally there are two Uruguayan sources that say their athlete is going to Rio de Janeiro (this includes the twitter feed of the athlete himself). http://llamaceleste.com/index.php/noticias/otros/item/3047-remando-llego-uruguay and https://twitter.com/jhonatanrowig --MorrisIV (talk) 22:29, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
