Date of discovery

[edit]

As the MPEC shows, the first images date back to January 5 2006, but the provisional designation is 2007, so the discovery images must be from 2007. The MPEC shows a series of observations starting January 16 2007, which are very likely the discovery images (this is the date used on the Timeline of discovery of solar system planets and their natural satellites). The 2006 set must be precovery images. Urhixidur 19:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Roman numeral designation

[edit]

This satellite should receive the Roman numeral designation L.

The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN) names and numbers new discovered satellites in order of their recovery. So after the recovery of S/2006 S 6 and S/2007 S 1 these satellites should become Saturn XLIX and Saturn L most likely.

Likely? Maybe, but until the number is announced in an MPEC or IAUC, no number should be mentioned. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. — JyriL talk 19:22, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's settled with IAUC 8873, 20 September 2007. Urhixidur 04:08, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
