In fact the name of luda should be LVDA but not LUDA Ksyrie 01:57, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added more info, and updated specs to reflect modernization refit. IMO if the ships have been mostly upgraded with the mid-life upgrade program, why list the old Luda I specs? -- Adeptitus 23:24, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

added some more info on the 051S:

http://www.ciaonet.org/olj/sa/sa_99kos01.html

In January 1983, for instance, China signed an agreement with Britain for retrofitting of Sea Dart surface-to-air missiles on the Chinese destroyers. However, as the cost of the deal [£100 million] was considered to be too high, this was not pursued. Deals with the Italians, French, Ukrainians and Russians, however, have been successful in this regard.

Note: In 1983 the exchange rate was 1 British pound to 1.5 USD, so 100 million pounds = $150 million USD in 1983 dollars. This upgrade plan was abandoned due to high costs, and concerns about the complexity, reliability of the system, as well as the limited number of missiles that the Luda could've carried.

Decommissioning

[edit]

Janes reckon that the decommissioning of the Nanchang was "the country's last active Type 051 destroyer". I don't know enough detail, perhaps someone with better knowledge can comment?Le Deluge (talk) 10:08, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
