Takia River

19th- and early 20th-century sources on Ningbo—including EB9, Chamber's, and these guys—seem unanimous in calling Ningbo's principal river (i.e., the Yong) the "Ningpo" or the "Takia". That's obviously got to be their transcription of pinyin "Dajia" and I found this map and this blog that seem to equate 大浹江 with the Yong. Baidu Baike even has a stub on the name...

That said, where did the name come from? and where did it go? Absolutely no one I know in Ningbo has ever heard of that name, but for a hundred years it's apparently what the visiting sailors picked up from the locals. What gives? — LlywelynII 17:59, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
