Daniel Brustlein

[edit]
  • ... that the highly-regarded New Yorker cartoonist known as "Alain" was Daniel Brustlein, an "artist's artist" whose paintings received high praise from New York critics?
  • Comment: "Nominating Daniel Brustlein for DYK"

  • Comment only This is not a review. Very good article, however the main hook act isn't mentioned in the ref given (that I could see). Actually the ref is to the painters web site where he is the one of the "foremost painters" in America. A 3rd party site might help. I also tried to find the "collective" pseudonym mention in the alt hook and the collective phrase isn't used in the article. I would have added it but there were three refs offered and I wasn't sure which one would mention this aspect. The article as a whole is well on its way to GA. I havent marked this as a review as I didnt want to deter another. Well done Victuallers (talk) 15:34, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
Interesting person, on good sources, offline sources accepted AGF. Article: please write more of a summary in the lead! Hook: the first mentions only one aspect, the second with all these names bores me. Please word something mentioning the cover art, yes, but also that (perhaps even more so) he was a serious artist. - I support that this article will be a GA before long ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:12, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Pinged user, recommend closure in a few days if no further action is taken. Harrias talk 08:29, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you both. I expanded the lede so that it might support the "foremost painters" claim made in the Brustlein web site. I've no special commitment to the ALT1 hook. (The collective pseudonym is "Lee Strout White," a combination of Lee Strout and E.B. White.) What's my next step? Revise the DYK? I realize the article is no longer new. Delabrede (talk) 19:38, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the expansion. Could you word a hook which also hints at his other work? If not no problem, then I will approve the original if I find the ref this time. - No problem about "no longer new", - all that matters is newness at nomination time, from then we can polish as long as we like. Today an article to which I contributed appeared, written 11 April ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:42, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for the alternatives. All have in common that the facts are sourced - and that the readers knows almost all they may want to know and will not read the article ;) - Juggling with elements I would arrive at:
ALT3: ... that Daniel Brustlein, known as cover artist for The New Yorker, received critical praise as an "artist's artist"?
ALT4: ... that the magazine illustrator and cartoonist who signed his work "Alain" was the artist Daniel Brustlein? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:12, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
'Thanks again!' -- Jeff Delabrede (talk) 23:47, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
, shortened versions preferred, my choice would be ALT3, - too bad we can't have an image, - read the article!--Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:32, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
