Background white

[edit]

I made the background white on Template:Hiero and all subtemplates. For the usual skin setup this will not be a topic since all pages already have a white background, and few readers will experience any change, but since I have a pink background by my private modern.css, a few private-style geeks will perceive a small improvement. ... said: Rursus (mbor) 11:32, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonesey95 I see you have made changes to the text color to accommodate for dark mode. There is still a problem because the background color is hard-coded to be white, so with white text it becomes invisible. See for example here Rafah#Etymology. I have some experience with CSS, but I'm not sure how to change it to dynamically handle changing the background color based on the current color-scheme. Any suggestions? - Rooiratel (talk) 19:51, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe background-color: var(--background-color-base) ? - Rooiratel (talk) 20:17, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And then combine that with the change you attempted earlier of color:var( --color-base ). - Rooiratel (talk) 20:19, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've applied the changes, and they seem to work. See my example of Rafah#Etymology from earlier. It now displays black text on a white bg, for light mode, and vise versa for dark mode. Let me know if you spot any issues, or have suggestions for improvements. - Rooiratel (talk) 20:22, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Rooiratel implemented the changes I was about to try, but I stopped to get a snack. Nice work! I find the documentation for the night mode color options quite lacking. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:30, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please add

Not done: please make your requested changes to the template's sandbox first; see WP:TESTCASES. Jackmcbarn (talk) 18:03, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Example now in the sandbox and testcases, showing that it works with the current usages with no adverse effects. -- 70.50.148.122 (talk) 05:18, 15 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adding marker request

[edit]

Adding help marker [?] redirecting to the template page at the bottom of the template may be useful for readers to signify which era corresponds to the template color. --CaeserKaiser (talk) 23:53, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am working to have this solved differently: name & wikilink the era involved. If the era is relevent, it should be mentioned. If not, coloring is useless. -DePiep (talk) 23:34, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DePiep:Very nice job but coloring the Hieroglyphic name draws more attention to the reader. --CaeserKaiser (talk) 00:28, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not convinced. Era-coloring only helps when you see the whole timeline (like in {{History of Egypt}} -- by the way, different colors in there ;-) ).
Using era coloring this way (for a secondary topic even) is distracting the reader. Colors are not for "illustration". Also, I am happy that we have added the actual era wikilink now. -DePiep (talk) 18:40, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Center the image

[edit]

It is preferred to center the image in the box. Until today, this was done by using <center> tags, added to in the input. However, <center> is deprecated and should be resolved other ways.

For starters, I have removed those tags from individual input [1] (some 35120 articles were edited), and added it as generic to the template [2]. From this, we can handle the deprecation & removal simply from this template. -DePiep (talk) 23:30, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
