Alex Sly (Born October 1992) is a serial entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Urban Upgrade. [1] He was one of the biggest volunteers in Australia; at age 17 he received the highest award within Scouts Australia (Qeenscout). [2]
Early Life
[edit]Alex Sly was born to half Australian and half English parents, and grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne for most of his child life. This suburban life played host to a series of micro entrepreneurial ventures at the time; He started his first business at the age of 9 by doing odd gardening jobs around the house of his neighbors for $5 an hour, eventually hiring one of his mates to help out and increasing this service to lawn mowing, window cleaning and car washing for various prices ranging from $10 to $40 an hour.
He has been interested in nature and business from a very young age; by the Age of 11 his parents had taken him travelling around all of Australia and he had already setup 10 business the profits of which he used or travel.
He attended De La Salle secondary college [3] before going on to withdraw half way through from an Associate degree in Engineering (Civil) at Swinburne University.
Starting Urban Upgrade
[edit]Alex Sly passed on the business he had been working on and succesfully built into a viable business to start urban upgrade at the age of 22 in 2014 from his parents' garage in Melbourne, Australia.
When he was asking factories to provide quotes for the manufacturing of the first production run of Kogan TVs, he claims the factories laughed at him, and would not accept his small order.
