The accompanied music video for "No Scrubs" was directed by Hype Williams. It was nominated for a 31st NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Music Video.[1]

Various sets used on the video were all made of steel to have the look that coincides with FanMail's album cover.[2]

"We each have individual parts on individual sets, so it's like our individual worlds. Man, I love this video because each of us has our own style," Lopes shared with MTV News.[2]

The scenes have group members dressed in what were described by Another Magazine's Ana Kinsella as "coordinated, black cyberpunk costumes like a trio of revenge-seeking heroes from an S&M-inspired sci-fi."[3]

while Lopes rapping and performing "martial arts-looking dance moves".[4]

While reviewing Now & Forever: The Video Hits, Quentin B. Huff gave the video a "thumbs down" for originality, criticizing it "absolutely hijacks the space-age imagery" from the Jacksons' "Scream".[4]

In 2016, Another Magazine voted it as one of the world's most fashionable music videos.[3]

Awards

The video was labelled by many publications as "iconic."[5]
