Lee Hyori began her career as part of South Korean girl group Fin.K.L, whom debuted in 1998 and later became one of the most successful girl groups in country.[1] They released their forth and last studio album Eternity (2002), before going on hiatus to pursue solo careers.[1] Lee soon after started working on her debut album, Stylish...E, and picked up a few roles as hosts for many television variety shows, notably KBS2's Happy Together and MBC's Time Machine.[2][3] With much attention granted while the singer was still in Fin.K.L, her debut album was then hailed as the most anticipated among other female singers in the country.[2]

For the project, Lee collaborated with composer Kim Do-hyun and singer-songwriter MayBee on "10 Minutes", a pop song which followed the album's main concept: "sex[iness]."[4][2]

  • Its lyrics were written by MayBee with composition and arrangement handled by Kim. All the songs' production on Stylish...E, including "10 Minutes", credited Lee and Jung Hoon Lee as producers.
  • Lee once admitted that she was not friendly with people[5]
  • Kim shared about the song's recording process and his first encounter with Lee: "I was worried when I first met [Lee]. She didn't even bat an eye. I had a lot of things that I need to discuss with her about the song. Eventually, I was able to record everything easily because the conversation we had was about music."[5]

Music

[edit]
  • "The truth is it's a genre that is hard for Korean singers to digest. Korean dance music is mainly melody, but in ["10 Minutes"], the rhythm is like drum and bass. At the beginning I was a little surprised when [Lee] asked me to make songs in this style.
  • Kim had previously worked with many underground artists including Cho PD and Jo Gyu-man, with the latter wrote the song "Like Today" for Stylish...E.[2][4]
  • "Actually, it is a genre that our singers can not digest.
  • Kim also composed two other album tracks "One Two Three N'Four" and "Hey Girl" while MayBee contributed the lyrics for "Remember Me".
  • Both of them later became her longtime friends, with Kim also composed other songs for Lee in later projects.
  • I don't want to make a dance song that is similar to others. "[The song's] genre is not yet popular but I wanted to try it first. However, I don't want to disregard radio airplays or television performances. I want you to listen to the music style rather than looking at my costumes or dancing."[5]

Lyrics

[edit]
  • "I'm different, don't compare me to her".[8]
  • Lee Hyo Ri then lit up the way of directing female singers. Ten Minutes, a song that can entice a man in 10 minutes. Singer Mabi who wrote "Tenminitsu" commented, "It was the housework that could recall the visions of Lee Hyo Ri full of confidence anywhere." [2]
  • The content tells a story about a woman seduce in ten minutes.
  • "It was a song that could come up with the visuals of Lee Hyo-ri, who was so confident everywhere."
  • In 2011, MayBee revealed that the song was her favorite composition.[9] She shared: "It received the most love, and because of it, I was able to come up with more songs with powerful lyrics."[9] Although MayBee's mother was very happy that she became a lyricist, after reading the song's lyrics, she got angry and "punished" the singer with "doubts" about her private life.[10] "I got scolded by my mom afterwards. She asked me, 'What've you been doing everyday that you were able to create lyrics like this?,'" MayBee revealed.[9]

"Women are not just crying because they broke up with their boyfriends, but there are a lot more women who want to get revenge on men because they are more beautiful," he said.

It is a testament to the psychology of those who are full of confidence
