Prasun Banerjee is an Indian politician, actor and former senior police officer from West Bengal who was elected as Member of 18th Lok Sabha from Maldaha Uttar constituency since 2024 from Trinamool Congress. Prior to politics, he was an IPS officer from West Bengal cadre until 2024.

Birth and education

He was born on 1970 in Barlurghat, West Bengal. He persued a Masters of Law degree from The Global Open University Year of Complenton of Year 2015.[1]

Early career

Banerjee is a 2006-batch IPS officer.[2] He has served as superintendent of police (SP) in South Dinajpur and Malda police districts; deputy inspector general (DIG) of police in Balurghat and Malda divisions, and also in the Crime Investigation Department (CID).[3] He last served as an IGP rank in Raiganj range in-charge of West Bengal Police.[4]

Political career

On 2024, Banerjee joined the Trinamool Congress. He got a ticket from Malda North constituency in March 2024.

Film career

Apart from joining in police career, Banerjee is also involved in side line acting career. He played in the serials Guddi, Desher Maati and Sona Roder Gaan.[5] He has also directed plays like Shakunir Pasha and Droh Kaal. He helmed a short film titled Just Across The River and a documentary titled Paradise Lost as a director.[6]
