Atul Singh (Actor)

Introduction

Atul Singh is an Indian theater and film actor/writer, based in Mumbai. He was born in Varanasi where, on the banks of the holy Ganges, he grew up to develop a passion for the performing arts. He has a B.Tech degree in Computer Science and worked in the corporate sector for a while before crossing over to the film industry completely to follow his passion. He strives for avenues for portraying his acting skills and continues to pursue his passion as his profession.

Background and Education

Atul Singh was born in a middle class family in Varanasi on 10th August 1984. He completed his schooling from Uday Pratap College and then graduated from U.P. Technical University with a B.Tech in Computer Sc. and Engineering in 2008. Throughout his school & college life, his association with theater and acting continued to thrive.

Career

Atul performed at Taj Mahotsav, Brij Mahotsav and National Level Talent Symposiums during his college days. After finishing his undergrad, he joined a full-time diploma program at Anupam Kher's Actor Prepares in 2010 to get professional training in acting and give a finishing touch to his talent.

Television

Atul has worked with major Indian serials including Lo Kar Lo Baat,
Meri Marzi,
 Adalat
Bhanwar, among which Devon ke Dev...Mahadev, 24, Crime Patrol, and
Prisoner Of War won critical acclaim and commercial success.

Films

Atul has been a part of a number of short films and played a wide array of complex characters. Confessions, tells the story of a man who takes desperate measures after facing a lost love and a hurt ego. In Tracks, Atul portrays the anguish of a sweeper whose primary job is to clean dead bodies from railway tracks after accidents as he torments over people’s recklessness when they continue to cross railway tracks despite the dangers it involves. His other works include central roles in other films such as 48 Hrs and Desperate, Showreel and Attention. Atul has also recently written and directed another short film called Intolerance.


Theatre

In the beginning of his career, Atul was a part of many stage productions. In Chotu, Atul played the role of a terrorist who questions the purpose behind the activities of his terror group and eventually saves a child from his own group’s attack. Atul was the central character in Samaj which tried to raise awareness regarding HIV AIDS. He played the role of an AIDS patient who commits suicide due to negligence and ill treatment by the family after his diagnosis. Kartavya, Chotka and Bhoomika were some of his other works.


Writing and directing

Apart from acting, Atul also wrote and directed a number of plays. He wrote and directed Kartavya—the story of an executioner who despite his dreams of a different life for his son loses the latter to drugs and crime. Towards the end he performs his professional duty and executes his son, and finally like a dutiful father allows himself to grieve. Atul also scripted and directed Chotka which was an adaptation of Prem Chand’s story. It was a poignant narration that followed the story of caste divisions in rural India.


Atul recently wrote a short film titled Intolerance.
