User:Crouch, Swale/Misdirected district links

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Misdirected links for districts. Links made to Blaby may mean Blaby District or links made to Oldham may mean Metropolitan Borough of Oldham. Be careful the term isn't referring to a district in general or another generic term like Prehistoric Norfolk#Mesolithic appears to be.

Current

[edit]

All are from 1974 (or 1965 for London boroughs) unless reconstituted. Be careful to link to the correct one if there were older districts with the same name, see also reconstituted districts below.

Former

[edit]

Reconstituted districts

[edit]

Out of the over 1000 districts in England before the 1974 and London 1965 reform a few survived with the same boundaries namely the County Borough of Hastings has the same boundaries (number 8) as the current district from 1974 when this is the case per Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about districts#Reconstituted districts you should still preferably link to County Borough of Hastings when appropriate but it should redirect to the current district name with the same boundaries rather than having a separate article. Otherwise most had significant boundaries in 1974 (or 1965 for London) like Municipal Borough of Chorley/Borough of Chorley so when fixing links to Chorley make sure you link to the correct one. Newer district may have borough or city status but not older ones or vice versa like the pre 1974 Dover district having borough status but not the newer one or borough status may have been given after the 1974 reform like with Pendle.

Councils

[edit]
  • When the likes of Eastbourne/Eastbourne Borough Council are separate links may be made to Eastbourne Borough Council instead of the council though in a few bases linking to the district may be more appropriate especially if something like "Eastbourne Borough Council area" is used. When the council doesn't have a separate article and redirects to the district this is less important but you can sometimes find district errors eg Warwick District Council linked when at least the link should be changed to Warwick District but preferably Warwick District Council. All district councils are listed at User:Crouch, Swale/District councils but those with separate articles are as noted most important to fix.

The reverse

[edit]

When a link is made to a district, normally those with city status but actually means the settlement (example[1]).
