I am a classicist living in York, England. Many years ago I took the Classical Tripos at the University of Cambridge, being supervised by - among others - the late Colin Austin and John Chadwick. I am now retired from teaching at the University of York and the Hull York Medical School, having retired earlier from Bootham School. I was formerly much involved in monitoring public examinations in England and Wales, as chair of the SJCs that represent six teachers' unions and associations. I am keenly involved in beta and release candidate testing: so much so that a good friend who is a distinguished computer scientist has referred to me as a 'bit of an anorak'. I am married to a professional musician who teaches and performs as a pianist. I record her and others' performances.
