7. depression/anxiety

The Meyncke Effect is an incredibly alienating experience that not easily articulated but best described as an inability to move past the threshold of a relationship due to lack of feelings or loss of attraction often accompanied by guilt and frustration and a sick feeling in stomach.

Dissimilar to losing interest in the "chase" or becoming bored after the honeymoon period after securing the affection of another person,

persons afflicted by the Meyncke Effect desperately want to experience and maintain attraction to another person but physically cannot or psychologically cannot.

Many of those who suffer from the Meyncke Effect may begin to believe they are asexual or aromantic but this is unlikely as attraction is experienced in the beginning and quickly fades away as well as a desire to connect with someone emotionally and romantically.

Many people affected by the Meyncke Effect live in solitude, not wanting to endure fraudulent relationships built on no real attraction, or learn to push past the beginning stages of the Effect and try to live with it.
