Mission

[edit]

The mission of the Young Marines Alumni Association is to be a vital partner in the success of the Young Marines. Through meaningful engagement and the support of lifelong connections, the Young Marines Alumni Association aims to strengthen all Young Marines - past, present, and future.[1]

History

[edit]

Founded in 2011, The Young Marines Alumni Association started with a small gathering of Young Marines in Washington, DC. They discussed many things; however, a challenge emerged from the discussions. The bulk of discussion revolved around trying to find a way to keep track of how the Young Marines organization impacts lives, how to continue the camaraderie that is fostered by the Young Marines organization and how to build a professional network for Young Marines to be a part of when they were discharged or retired from the organization. Their answer to this challenge was the Young Marines Alumni Association.

Since 2003, more than 65,000 youth have passed through the ranks of the Young Marines. The Young Marines organization has invested much into each member and there is no better way to showcase what the Young Marines organization is than to showcase its Alumni. Today the Young Marines can account for doctors, pilots, lawyers, military officers, and many other successful professionals that can find their foundations in the Young Marines. The Young Marines Alumni Association receive its official charter in 2014 at the annual Adult Leaders Conference. [2]

Michael B. Kessler SPACES Scholarship

[edit]

The Michael B. Kessler SPACES Scholarship was introduced during the 2015 Adult Leaders Conference for the Young Marines. The Scholarship was created In honor of the support and dedication of Michael B. Kessler to the Young Marines national youth organization. Mike Kessler dedicated 16 years of service to the Young Marines national Young Organization after serving in the Marine Corps. One of many accomplishments is the creation of the SPACES program, an acronym for Summer Programs, Adventures, Challenges, Encampments and Schools. The Scholarship was created to honor Mike Kessler's service and to provide youth members of the Young Marines the opportunity to experience Michael Kessler’s vision for SPACES and encourage youth to live a healthy drug-free lifestyle.
