Oregon Legislature

The Legislative Assembly is bicameral, consisting of an upper house and lower house. The Senate consists of 30 members elected to serve 4-year terms. The House of Representatives consists of 60 members elected to 2-year terms. There are no term limits.

Each Senate district is composed of exactly two House districts:

  • Senate District 1 contains House Districts 1 and 2,
  • SD 2 contains HD 3 and HD 4, and so on.

Senate districts contain about 127,700 people, and are redrawn every ten years.

The legislature is termed as a "citizens' assembly" (meaning that most legislators have other jobs).

  • Regular sessions, 160 days occurred in odd-numbered years, beginning on the second Monday in January.
  • Short sessions, 35 days occur in even-numbered years, beginning in February.

Today is July 30, 2024. The legislature is not in session. It is an election year. New representatives will be chosen in November 2024. The next session will be a regular session. It will begin January 13, 2025.
