From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

B-Boy Thesis (Thias Kem Lopez) is an 18 year-old professional b-boy (breakdancer) originally from Tucson, Arizona.

Birth and Early Childhood

[edit]

Thias Lopez was born on December 26, 1991, to a Mexican-American father and a Native-American mother, a mixed heritage of which he takes great pride in. Thesis began dancing at the young age of 8, heavily influenced by video footage of his uncles and cousins, former poppers involved in the 1980's hip hop scene. [1] In interviews, Lopez often states that due to growing up in an underprivileged environment with little source of entertainment, dancing became a method to both alleviate boredom and generate a sense of hope in an otherwise bleak life. [2]

Arizona and Knuckleheads Cali

[edit]

In Arizona, Lopez was mentored by fellow b-boy "Paranoid Android," [3] a performer known within the community as one of the forerunning "abstract" breakdancers. This subset of bboying combines all elements and involves flexible motions and transitions, unlike more traditional forms of breakdancing, which typically combine power moves (airflares and other moves commonly associated with breakdancing) with footwork. This style would become Thesis' most reputable style.

The youngest of his crew, Knuckleheads Cali [4], Thesis trained and learned from many other notable b-boys while traveling back and forth from Arizona to Southern California.

Move to Seattle, Washington

[edit]

In 2008, Thias and his mother moved to Seattle, Washington.

Notable Achievements

[edit]

Thesis is the youngest breakdancer to ever participate in the largest and most publicized annual breakdancing tournament in the world, Red Bull BC One (2009). He was eliminated after defeat by two-time champion Bboy Lilou, but will go on to compete for the title once again in the 2010 tournament, which will be held in Tokyo, Japan. [5]

Hype Nation Movie Deal

[edit]

In April of 2010, former Korean pop boyband member Jay Park was officially cast in the hip hop dance movie, "Hype Nation." Bboy Thesis was also cast, and will be appearing alongside Park. The movie is tentatively set for release in 2011. [6]
