Brawlout is a fighting video game developed and published by Angry Mob Games. The game is a competitive platform fighter, scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows early 2017.

Gameplay

[edit]

Brawlout has a robust competitive mode with online support, and will have an entire single player campaign in the vein of Street Fighter. They will also be supporting the competitive side by creating in game tournaments and taking advantage of services like Xbox Arena.[2]

While it does feel like Super Smash Bros., the developers have made a point not to include grabs, blocks or tripping. This whittles the mechanics down to its core — punch stuff. There’s still dodging and special moves, but "Brawlout" feels more about beating up your opponent and less about forcing them into submission. Another difference is the addition of the "Rage Meter", which fills as you get hit by enemies. Once full, the overall power of your character increases, giving you the chance to come back.[2]

Characters

[edit]

The game has 10 playable fighters planned for launch, 4 of whom have been playable at events such as EVO 2016[3], Super Smash Con[4], Gamescom and PAX West[2]; other characters will be added over time.

Where Brawlout tries to differentiate itself from its market rival is that each character isn’t static. They don’t have a set move list that is what it is. The characters evolve, they can be given new special attacks, a variety of combo moves and different movement abilities with each character being unique to the last.[1]

  • "Chief Feathers": can jump forever as he flaps his wings, but also uses them to cut through enemies
  • "King Apu": a purple monkey who whips a ball and chain around as a long range weapon
  • "Sephi'ra": uses her strong legs to kick her enemies furiously and relentlessly
  • "Olaf Tyson": shoots ice shards at enemies that freeze them for a short time. Olaf can also create an ice tower that saves him from falling to his death on the sides of the map
  • "Gancho Puncho": he can grab with his tongue to save him from the edge, and do a seemingly unstoppable spin move
