Gladinet, Inc. is a corporation located in the United States, founded in 2008 with the goal of turning the internet into a virtual PC by seamlessly integrating Cloud Services directly onto a PC desktop. The company believes that this approach is better than using a Web Browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox as a Cloud Client. [Gladinet Cloud Desktop] is a byproduct of this view and takes the first step towards the goal of a virtual internet PC by implementing a ubiquitous Cloud Storage Client that integrates Cloud Storage with the Windows file system. This level of integration provides obvious improvements in usability when compared to a browser based client. Files from the cloud are accessed exactly as if they were on a local disk or a mounted network file share. To further enhance usability, [Gladinet Cloud Desktop] also creates file type associations between web applications and files, whether they are stored on a local disk or in the Cloud. Gladinet believes that the web is evolving beyond the browser and that full utilization of the power promised by the Web 3.0 movement, will require a seamless integration between cloud services and the operating system.

In May 2009, the company launched the Gladinet Cloud Desktop product. The product provides a platform for cloud service integration and an SDK which facilitates the creation of plugins to support cloud services like cloud storage. Supported providers include Amazon S3, Google Docs, [EMC Atmos], Google Picasa, Box.net, and all WebDav or FTP based providers. In addition to the integration provided by the plugins, the platform provides many features[1] like online backups to a redundant array of cloud storage
