Certified Therapeutic Musicians are individuals who have been certified by the National Standards Board for Therapeutic Musicians (NSBTM)[1] In order to become certified they will have had to go through one of several training programs accredited by the NSBTM these include the Clinical Musician Certification Program[2], Harp Therapy Certification Program[3], International Harp Therapy Program[4] and the Music for Healing and Transition Program[5] Therapeutic Music is acoustic music played or sung live in a variety of healthcare settings and is meant to alleviate physical, emotional or mental concern.[6] Places you might find a therapeutic musician include hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, mental health treatment centres, yoga studios etc... The goal of therapeutic musicians is to create an environment conducive to the healing process. It's not meant to cure but to comfort, soothe and support.
