User:MastCell/FDA links

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of potentially broken or redirected links to *.fda.gov, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration websites in article namespace. Collated 10 July 2009. Please feel free to check and/or fix any of these links. If you do so, please strike them out using <s> and </s> tags and leave a short note with your sig, so that people don't duplicate your work.

See WP:PHARM (Talk:Archive 3) for some useful hints to fix links from the old root-directory:

to the new one:

-- Alfie±Talk 11:57, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Example: The label of Nimodipine was moved from
http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/label/2006/018869s014lbl.pdf to
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2006/018869s014lbl.pdf

Note: I think the problem is just that these URLs lack a trailing slash (i.e. they should be http://www.fda.gov/ rather than http://www.fda.gov). That was probably enough to trip up a simple socket connection, but most browsers probably handle this without too much difficulty.

It seems that all documents like http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/answers/YYYY/foo.html are gone. Copy the old URL and paste it to the Wayback Machine. Locate the most recent version and use the archived version as a reference. Use Magnus' reference generator (An arbitrary website) to generate a new ref. Include the old URL (removing the leading http://), the URL of webarchive + the date of the archived version. —Alfie±Talk 13:49, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Example: http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/answers/2004/ANS01302.html leads to the last archived version http://web.archive.org/web/20080117175319/http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/answers/2004/ANS01302.html (2008-01-17).

Magnus' tool (removing the http://) gives <ref> {{cite web |url=www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/answers/2004/ANS01302.html |title=FDA Approves New Drug for Treatment of Alcoholism |accessdate=2009-08-15 |date=2004-07-29 |work=FDA Talk Paper |publisher=[[Food and Drug Administration (United States)/Food and Drug Administration]] |archiveurl=http://web.archive.org/web/20080117175319/http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/answers/2004/ANS01302.html |archivedate=2008-01-17 }} </ref>

Cave: There's in known bug in Magnus's tool if a piped link (like in the publisher-field) is used. The wiki-code will come up with a slash (/) instead of the pipe (|). Be sure to correct it (or avoid it at all by using [[FDA]] only).

The reference will show up like:[1]Alfie±Talk 14:23, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

  1. ^ "FDA Approves New Drug for Treatment of Alcoholism". FDA Talk Paper. Food and Drug Administration. 2004-07-29. Archived from [www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/answers/2004/ANS01302.html the original] on 2008-01-17. Retrieved 2009-08-15. {{cite web}}: Check |url= value (help)

Looks like FDA Consumer was shut down in 2007 and is no longer online. Links to web.archive.org are probably in order. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:25, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Ha! They're on PubMed! WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:56, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, and FDA's press releases (including archives) are here; sometimes the text in the article gives a hint what to look for. -- Alfie±Talk 19:50, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
