Regarding Balaji Viswanathan's article deletion

[edit]

Hi Stringy Acid.

I noticed that you nominated and the article on Balaji Viswanathan was indeed deleted. So Quora's most followed person (who has more following than even Jimmy Wales) and the top writer's Wikipedia article was eventually deleted. To me now it seems like Wikipedia is no place for the people who are popular on various social media platforms. Now that you have confirmed that, can the articles on PewDiePie or jacksepticeye also be nominated for deletion?, since these people have been covered on Wikipedia only because they are popular YouTubers Of coourse, in good faith. Well, the general idea is that if being Quora's most followed person was a notable feat in itself, other secondary sources (e.g., newspapers, reputable blogs, etc.) would have covered Balaji Vishwanathan. Unfortunately, there is no such coverage at the moment (also see WP:TOSOON), which would lead one to conclude that it is not an accomplishment that people are interested in. Jimmy Wales is famous for things other than being on Quora. As you've noted yourself, there are several articles about YouTubers and other social media users on Wikipedia. Your examples, PewDiePie and jacksepticeye, both have received multiple coverage by several secondary sources including Irish Examiner, Forbes, Business Insider, etc. Thus, unlike Balaji Vishwanathan, they pass WP:GNG. Hope the reasons I nominated the article for deletion is now clear. Cheers! — Stringy Acid (talk) 19:32, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
