Stonebrook (also known as Web of Lies) is a 1999 movie starring Seth Green, Zoe McLellan and Brad Rowe, about a young man from rural Virginia who is accepted into an Ivy League university called Stonebrook in the town of Stonebrook, Virginia. When his scholarship is cancelled, he must participate in illegal activities along with his roommate in order to pay his bills.
Plot
[edit]Erik lives on a farm in Virginia and wonders if he will ever do anything with his life. One day, he receives the news in the mail that he was not only accepted to Stonebrook, an Ivy League university, but he has a full scholarship. Erik arrives at the school and meets his eccentric roommate Cornelius. He is seen as an outcast by the richer students, but he is determined to take advantage of this chance. For extra money, he works in the school's cafeteria, where he meets Londyn.
Erik finds out that he owes a great deal of money for tuition because the scholarship was cancelled. His friend, police detective Oliver Franklin, got him the money because he thinks of Erik as family. However, the rules for the scholarship require that Erik actually be a family member, so Erik must find a way to come up with a lot of money quickly or he will be sent home.
With the help of Cornelius, he comes up with a number of scams that allow him to not only pay his bills but also make some real money. But he needs startup cash, so Erik also turns to loan shark Alexander Tali, deciding he will worry about how to pay the man back later. Londyn, now a potential romantic interest, is shocked to learn Erik is dealing with the father she chooses not to associate with. Then Erik must go to work for Tali doing jobs that are illegal—jobs that involve murder. Cornelius is apparently killed and Erik finds himself in a great deal of trouble, but he can clear his name by helping the cops catch Tali and put him away.
