Garrett David Ginner (/ˈɪnnər/; born November 23, 1997) is an American skateboarder, YouTube personality, vlogger, and creator of streetwear fashion company Falkin Co.[3]

Early life

[edit]

Garrett Ginner was born on November 23, 1997 in Santa Cruz, California to Greg and Debra Ginner. Ginner attended Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, California.[4]

YouTube

[edit]

Garrett uploaded his first video, titled "Random flatground skateboarding tricks 2013" to YouTube on March 1, 2012.[5] In an interview with Penny Skateboards, Garrett said he would go out with his friends and film skate videos to post on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram so that his friends could watch.[6]

Three years later, on October 10, 2015, Garrett uploaded his first official vlog, titled "WORST way to sprain an ankle | Vlog #1", to YouTube.[7]

In an interview with Red Bull about preparing for the Red Bull Skate Arcade 2016, Garrett said about being a skateboarder and YouTube personality,

"Well, skateboarding and YouTube are two very different things. To be honest, what I do on YouTube is kind of frowned upon in the skate community. A lot of core skateboarders don’t think it’s cool, so being a skateboarder first and then transitioning into the YouTube world is a bit strange. You’re used to working on a street part for six months, putting it out and getting few hundred views and hoping media pick it up and run it. But now I could go mess around on a little handrail near my house for an hour, put it out and get a few hundred thousand views on my own, so saving clips becomes difficult."[8]

Ginner made local news in late February 2017 when he and his friends went wakesurfing with a bodyboard being pulled behind a Toyota Prius through the flooded streets of Rio del Mar, California.[4][9]

On November 22, 2017, Ginner's girlfriend Taylor Silva suffered an epidural hematoma while skateboarding and was in the ICU at UC Davis Medical Center for 10 days.[10][11][12] Garrett started a GoFundMe campaign to help offset the costs of Taylor's hospital bills, ultimately raising $5,450 out of a $5,000 goal.

On January 10, 2018, Garrett and Falkin Co. partner Edwin Acuna moved to Los Angeles together to pursue more content and collaboration opportunities for the vlog.[2]
