History

  • 1991 Founded by Dara O'Neill and Gerry Simoni as the Coastal Carolina Golf Tour[1][2] Initial 7 tournament summer schedule; fall series followed.[3]
  • 1993 Sponsored by Hurricane Sports Inc., and becomes the Hurricane Tour from August 1993[4]
  • 1995 Sponsored by PowerBilt and becomes the PowerBilt Tour from March 1995[5]
  • 1997 PowerBilt's 18 month sponsorship deal ends but tour continues to use the name[6] until it's acquired by Teardrop Golf Co., and becomes the TearDrop Tour[7]
  • 1998 TearDrop acquired the California Tour, which becomes the TearDrop Tour West Coast series
  • 2000 Final 8 events of the season canceled;[8] Teardrop Golf filed for bankruptcy in December; assets acquired by Gen-X Sports and tour discontinued[9]
