If you google search the name I supplyed then you will see that it is the original name given by Walter Mantelle in 1800s

Talk pages and scientific names for taxons

[edit]

Hi, every standard article in Wikipedia has a Talk page. The purpose of Talk page includes providing a place to discuss changes that could be controversial. Anyone can post suggestions and comments on a Talk page. For more details see: WP:TALK. Changing the scientific name of a taxon will typically require a discussion on the talk page, because it is potentially controversial. Changes in scientific names can sometimes take a long time to be resolved. Discussion of the scientific name of Takahe should take place on the article Talk page Talk:Takahē, as a new topic. --Marshelec (talk) 07:41, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I also suggest that reading this page could be useful: Binomial nomenclature --Marshelec (talk) 07:45, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As mentioned above, discussion of the scientific name should occur on the Talk page of the relevant article, however, it is worthwhile to refer to the IOC World Bird List that is a highly regarded source. See: [1] This shows that Porphyrio mantelli is the binomial name for the extinct North Island Takahē, and Porphyrio hochstetteri is the binomial name for the South Island Takahē. Note that the article Takahē is about the South Island species.--Marshelec (talk) 07:59, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
