[edit]

Astronomyinertia - Thanks for giving me a cup of tea for reviewing your DYK article. I recently wrote my second article that I submitted for DYK: Template:Did you know nominations/Robert Hiester Montgomery . I spent a lot of time researching and writing this article. Time has passed and it has not moved onto the front page. Maybe it is because it got a qualified recommendation. Could you find it in your heart to look over the article and give it a stronger recommendation, if you think it deserves it? Thanks, GroveGuy (talk) 04:04, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewed the article. Seems very interesting to me. Definitely a pass!:) I was thinking whether to add "world's largest accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers.." to the ALT1 but didn't proceed, thinking that it would add an element of bias to the hook. ASTRONOMYINERTIA (TALK) 11:29, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And I thank you for giving a recommendation to my article. It finally made it to the front page, undoubtably thanks to you! GroveGuy (talk) 03:05, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Canadian Tamil Congress, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Scarborough (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 21 April 2012.

DYK nomination of Angampora

[edit]

Hello, Astronomyinertia. I have reviewed your nomination of Angampora, but there is an outstanding issue. Could you please look again at your nomination and then let me know when it is ready to be reviewed again? Thank you. Moonraker (talk) 15:29, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We have a new problem with this expanded article, as Nikkimaria has found some very close paraphrasing from a source, and that is a likely copyright violation. Of course, it may be material which was already there when you started your expansion, but it all needs to be cleaned up. Can you please check for all such passages and rewrite them to deal with this problem? Regards, Moonraker (talk) 03:10, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding PD-Sri Lanka Template

[edit]

Hello Astronomyinertia...I stand corrected on the issue of PD-Sri lanka Template.Under the template that stated "Photographic works or applied art: 25 years from the making of the work." I uploaded some photographs based on the terms and condition mentioned herein. However, this template has been amended, by you, to read as "Photographic works or applied art: During the life of the author and 70 years after his death."

Given the above, I will now have to delete a certain amount of photographs.

Deletion of photographs that come under the earlier template purview includes...(please refer below)

I think the photographic works belong to a category of their own. To me, these images have nothing to do with Laws and decisions of courts and administrative bodies. But we can use some of these images under the fair use rationale. Since you are working with images quite often, please read that policy and familiarize yourself. Here is a list of copyright tags to claim fair use. I find this tag quite useful for historic-subjects that are practically impossible to represent with free images (example). Right now, I'm little too busy to check these images individually. But I will see as soon as possible. ASTRONOMYINERTIA (TALK) 18:17, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My previous Changes to the Angampora Page

[edit]

The changes I've made a knowingly and which were not angampora stuffs. one information is Velayudaya. Vel or Velayudaya is a type of Hella not a weopon what some fake teachers mentioned in some references who are originally chenadi teachers.

http://si.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B7%80%E0%B7%9A%E0%B6%BD%E0%B7%8F%E0%B6%BA%E0%B7%94%E0%B6%B0%E0%B6%BA

Also you have removed angampora.info weblink I've put. And other chinadi stuffs. I have proofs for what I'm talking. So please reply with your reason to undo.

Hmm. Going through your comments, I feel that you are quite knowledgeable of the subject. But the thing is, we can't take your word for fact because all the facts, figures, lists presented in a Wikipedia article should be reliably sourced with suitable references. That a core policy here, that you cannot bypass. In general, an article in another Wikipedia (Sinhala Wikipedia in this case) is not considered as a good source for an article in English Wikpedia. I couln't find reliable sources (RS) in the Sinhala Wikipedia article either. You can help improve the Angampora article by adding content with RS that I may have missed. Btw, I don't have the slightest idea which form/tradition of Angampora is the purest. You may not agree with guys who are promoting the art at Angampora.org on technical grounds, but don't remove the content attributed to them. Instead, please help improve the article, pointing out differences between the competing traditions, since both traditions claim to represent the same art. Your contributions in this field are most welcome. Thank you. ASTRONOMYINERTIA (TALK) 14:57, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. I will make some changes to the page without removing their things. But I Need world to understand that there are conflicts and the truth is far away from prevailing fake. The words like Velayudaya is the well known word to sri lankans. They can't fool the whole world. This is not angry. But we need world to know the real art not the fake representation. I think you will help me to develop the english wikipedia stuffs with real facts. --Angam 08:17, 4 July 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Angampora (talkcontribs)

Undoing my Edits

[edit]

first of all refer the last page of http://www.doenets.lk/exam/docs/ebooks/Symposium-2011-new.pdf. You better decide how much fair to say that you "dominated the Central province in GCE O/L and A/L examinations during this period." (Think twice... What ever your faith it is wrong to hide the truth. If the truth degrades you, atleast let don`t speak of it. Let it remain as it is.) Next regarding Hon. William Gopallawa. He was not in yours school(middle school) for more than three years. Still you tend to say that he was one of your old members. You have a funny way of counting your alumni. When someone comes to you from another institute you call him as one of yours (which is alright). Even someone leaves you and join another still you call him as one of you. What I have to say as my conclution is same as before. Therefore it leaves me a question whether any of my above edits need to be reverted? I admit my fault in making some text bold and underlined to give prominence. Still I don`t see any ethical violation because the words your people have used (for example - premier) could give a wrong impression unless they accompany the words which I made prominent. There fore I reverted your edit and removed my bold markings and underline markings and saved the rest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Correctbymyself (talkcontribs) 19:22, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please refer to the definition of "Alumnus" at Merriam-Webster and Macmillan Dictionary. They clearly define alumnus as "a person who has attended or has graduated from a particular school, college, or university". Further emphasis is unnecessary in sections at which you have edited, especially in the lead section. However I agree with you on the exam results issue. I have copyedited the section removing the peacock terms and reducing the undue positive impression on examination results. ASTRONOMYINERTIA (TALK) 15:28, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. An article that you have been involved in editing—1990 massacre of Sri Lankan Police officers—has been proposed for merging with another article. If you are interested, please participate in the merger discussion. Thank you. Dan arndt (talk) 03:41, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka

[edit]
Dear Astronomyinertia,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK.

The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects.

With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors.

There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on.

See you on board, and Happy Editing!
