Mobygames

[edit]

Hi, I saw your message at Talk:Mobygames, that you intend to delete mobygames links. Please do not do so without a strong Consensus, as many other editors add and value those links. (imdb, amg, and various other sites are commercial, but we link them everywhere...). See Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/External link templates for a full list. Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 19:00, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

March 2008

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Open source software. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. I tried to remove the template for the suggested mergers as Free Software and Open Source software is not the same thing. (see below) DCEvoCE (talk) 22:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Free and open source software, Free software

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.--Kozuch (talk) 11:39, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to remove the templates for the suggested mergers as Free Software and Open Source software is not the same thing. - I guess the way I did it wasn't very clever though. It seems it's a lot easier to add these templates than to remove them. DCEvoCE (talk) 22:18, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You got the point exactly.--Kozuch (talk) 23:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Pier Solar Beta Titlescreen.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pier Solar Beta Titlescreen.png. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 02:53, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discontinuation date

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:99.19.92.173 - as per what happened on this guys talk page..."Just to clarify on the Genesis being discontinued in 1995: It's well-documented that Sega itself stopped making and supporting the console in that year. Other companies continued to make third-party versions of it for various markets, but that's true of virtually any console (there are companies still making third-party versions of the NES and the Atari 2600 for niche markets)" Exceptions to this are noted in the article already.--PimpUigi 14:35, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    • "It's well-documented that Sega itself stopped making and supporting the console in that year." - Well, it's not, otherwise we wouldn't even debate this. What Sega of Japan did, was to discontinue software support FOR JAPAN in 1995, with only few Japanese games like Virtua Fighter II still being released in NA and EU in 1996. THAT is well-documented. Hardware was produced until 1998 at least. DCEvoCE (talk) 17:05, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Your source says nothing about the discontinuation of the Mega Drive, it talks about stock. Getting rid of left over stock isn't the same thing as discontinuation. Hardware was supported in other countries, as noted in the article already. Please discuss this further in the Mega Drive discussion area, with the main editors of the Mega Drive article, and see if their consensus changes based on the source you have provided, before changing it again. As you can see from the link I provided you earlier, Kent's Book will most likely be chosen as the source to go with, if it comes down to you making people choose.--PimpUigi 20:25, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Genesis Model1 High Definition Graphics.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Genesis Model1 High Definition Graphics.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 23:36, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of information from the Mega Drive article.

[edit]

Please do not continue to remove information - especially sourced statements, from the Mega Drive article. I notice you've been talked to before about vandalizing the Mega Drive article, please do not continue to do so.--SexyKick 18:48, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did _not_ vandalize the MD article. DCEvoCE (talk) 23:41, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted the article again but kept your last edit. Please try to add information that is important to you backinto the article. Do not simply revert. Thank you. 23:48, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
OK, I typed it all back in there for you.--SexyKick 01:54, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Logo caption

[edit]

See, if only you had just posted that picture first in talk like we asked...that helped us understand you so much...BTW your Korean image was bias though, since both the Model 1 and Model 2 Korean boxes still have the standard asian logo on it. I had also already posted a source for the fact that it's the asian logo, and not only the JP logo. You also need to learn how wikipedia works before assuming someone is fighting with you when they aren't. Assume good faith, I do. I understand it's a coincidence your edits are usually disruptive, when you are only trying to help.--SexyKick 06:19, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You don't assume good faith. You simply revert every single edit I do. Now stop spamming this page. DCEvoCE (talk) 13:59, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
PS: No, the Korean boxes do _not_ feature the "standard asian logo" as they are not even called "Sega Mega Drive" in Korea. They were produced and distributed by Samsung as "Super Gam* Boy". DCEvoCE (talk) 14:33, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't spamming you, I'm sorry you feel that way. This is just the only place to send you a direct message. I have posted images of the Korean Mega Drive model 2 box in the MD talk page. That article you have linked me to has no Korean Mega Drive box. I even have the first model Korean Mega Drive box, and it too has the asian logo. I'm sorry you have been misunderstanding me so much. I do not simply revert every single edit you do, I always put in comments as to why I revert, and you do not seem to read them. If you continue to attack me, I will have to bring this up on the incidents board.--SexyKick 20:16, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully these guys can help us work together better.

Re:Non-free tag Mega Drive article

[edit]

I imagine some of the screenshots will have to go too. The strange thing is that the editors are hoping to take the article to GAC/FAC- adding copious amounts of NFC is not going to help... J Milburn (talk) 23:54, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rolo to the Rescue

[edit]

You edited the article Rolo to the Rescue on 1 March 2010 to add it into the James Pond series. Is this really a James Pond game? JIP | Talk 07:31, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It features James Pond himself, James Pond levels (quite literally), and was made by the same team. It is not really a James Pond game in the sense that you control James Pond as the main character like in James Pond 1-3. It is comparable to Aquatic Games though. DCEvoCE (talk) 16:59, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. This is a friendly note that I have left a new comment on Talk:Mega Drive regarding the inclusion of separate logos for the JP and EU "Mega Drive" and US "Genesis" models. In short, my position is that the JP Mega Drive and US Genesis logos are important to the understanding of the article's subject (since the Genesis has its own significant notability and is itself discussed at length in the article, even though its logo is not). I'm a few months late to the discussion since I took an extended hiatus from Wikipedia to focus on personal matters, but it looks like consensus was never fully reached on the matter.

I'll be happy to work with you on this issue, and I'm also leaving this notice on the talk pages of the other people who were active in the discussion. Thanks. :) 21:41, 20 October 2010 (UTC) (— KieferSkunk (talk) —)

Thanks for your invitation, nameless one. ;-) I went ahead and replaced the "Asian" logo with the official Mega Drive logo from http://sega.jp/archive/segahard/md/ as I think the official logo is what should be used instead of other variants. - If you want to add the American, Chinese, Korean, European, and South-American logos, I'd propose to add them in the text itself instead of the article's header. DCEvoCE (talk) 22:54, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Coulda sworn I used the four-tilde signature instead of the five... Ah well. Thanks for the response. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 15:41, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
DCE, the JP logo is on Wikimedia commons now, so there is only one copyrighted logo in the article. The admins at Wikimedia will determine (and one has already) if the JP/Asian logo is text logo or not.--SexyKick 04:09, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is just a friendly reminder of the 3-Revert Rule. I noticed you and SexyKick appear to be reverting each other's edits on the Mega Drive article related to the included images. Consensus has clearly not been reached on the matter, but getting into an edit war isn't going to help matters. Let's work toward clearing this issue up before continuing edits in the main article. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:27, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Allow me to defend myself in that I merely reverted SexyKick's revert. It was not my intention of reverting anyone's contribution, just to restore my edit.
Consensus had been reached on the screenshots issue months ago when the article was tagged for its use of copyrighted material and too many images in general. SexyKick just keeps removing the article's tags in hope no one notices it, even reverting any changes to the article by other editors trying to comply with these tags. This is going on for months now (as you can see by the length of the discussions in the article's talk page and many many many edit wars of SexyKick with Alphaton, J Milburn and myself) and I doubt SexyKick has any plans on complying with anything in the future. He or she will just wait until we've got better things to do and will revert the article once again.
Sorry if I sound pissed, but I am. DCEvoCE (talk) 01:46, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war

[edit]

Please heed my comments on the report. This is a final warning for both of you. Take it to the article's talk page. --slakrtalk / 08:00, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How to make a gray box

[edit]

Hi. I happened to see you adding a quote in a gray box here at AN3. I want to learn how to do this. Is it done with a template? Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 15:56, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to you both. I'll try to save the recipe. EdJohnston (talk) 23:38, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mega Drive discontinuation date

[edit]

I think it turns out that you're right about the discontinuation date reading these sources already present in the article. Reading Kent's book says nothing about discontinuation, only about focusing on releasing Saturn early, and how it was disastrous for the Genesis as a result.--SexyKick 10:36, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted your undoing of my redirect, with some establishing of fact. The information did prove useful, as it helped as an invaluable source for List of Sega Genesis games, which I'm working toward an FL. However, exact release dates are unnecessary for FL status and list quality, and in fact will hinder the list because of lack of consistency (i.e. not every release will have a date available) and previous video game FLs, identified as some of Wikipedia's highest-quality lists, do not require exact release dates. In addition, two other points: as this list essentially directly copied the Sega list and its formatting, it is essentially a copyright violation. However, on a positive note, the source is now a source on the main list and is still accessible. If you have any questions, I can be reached at my talk page. Thank you, Red Phoenix build the future...remember the past... 02:18, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

April 2017

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on John A. McDougall. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Alexbrn (talk) 05:41, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Synthesis/OR &c.

[edit]

You seem to be spamming the same content into multiple articles, using sources which are neither necessary (when we have good/better ones saying the same thing) nor appropriate (when they make no mention of the article topic, meaning you are engaging in WP:SYNTHESIS/WP:OR). You are also beginning to edit war "your" text. If you continue to disrupt the encyclopedia you risk getting sanctioned. Alexbrn (talk) 12:21, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
