Flatbush

[edit]

I see that you edited the SGO from the Flatbush page. But I wanted you to understand that I got the idea from Maimonidies school in Boston (it's a modern orthodox school with the same hashkafa as Flatbush)--- I think its worthwile looking at their page. I don't understand why you edited Baruch Goldstein out of notable alumni, as he attended Flatbush. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Orel dagmy (talkcontribs)

page moves

[edit]

Never copy and paste an article from one title to another. Use the "Move" button at the top of the screen, to preserve the edit history. If a page is move-protected, or the move is obstructed by content already existing at the new title, post it at Wikipedia:Requested moves. — Jun. 18, '06 [18:15] <freak|talk>

I have undone your move and redone the move according to policy. Please adhere to Freakofnurture's advice when contemplating another page move. JFW | T@lk 00:04, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't ask for an apology! I just left a message to inform you that the move had been performed. Frankly, I think freakofnurture could have done it himself. I've taken the opportunity to do some cleaning up of Shulchan Aruch. Perhaps we should discuss the necessity of the long inline quote from the relatively unknown Menachem Elon. Articles that need revising/help

[edit]

Hello DLand. Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia. I was wondering if there's a list of articles anywhere that need revision and help, so that I could work on some things. Thanks.

Oops. Forgot to sign my name. Vancar 18:26, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the links. I'm checking them out, seeing if there is anything to which I can contribute. Vancar 20:28, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The West Bank Article

[edit]

Hey DLand, I stumbled across the West Bank article, and unfortunately it is biased, trying to show the Palestinian presence there more than the Israeli. Try fixing it up by showing Jewish relevance to the land. I will try to do the same. David Betesh

[edit]

Hello, DLand, I am not offended by your edit of the Conducting page to remove the link to my Conductor Program article, but I am surprised. I consider the article to be the most comprehensive resource about computer-assisted performance/conducting on the web. I'm new to Wikipedia, so I don't know the best way to do things; is there some other topic where a link to this article would be more appropriate? Or should I add the article itself to Wikipedia in some form? Thanks for your help. Stephen Malinowski

Conducting software

[edit]

I didn't post a Wikipedia article about the Music Animation Machine because I thought it would be perceived as blatantly self-promotional, so I chose instead to post a link to my article on computer-assisted conducting, which had relatively little to do with my efforts in the field (mentioning me only as one contributor among many). So it's ironic to have the link to the conductor program article removed, and be offered the suggestion to instead submit a Music Animation Machine page. You also suggested I write an article on conducting software. If I did that, would it be appropriate to add a link to it to the Conducting page? And if so, how is that different from adding a link to the already-written article? Stephen Malinowski

Conducting software article

[edit]

You wrote "If you were to create an article about conducting software, then it would be appropriate to link to it in the See also section of the Conducting article. The reason for this is that there is a fundamental distinction between links to other Wikipedia articles and external links. The links to other WP articles are meant to help 'build the web' by creating an interconnecting system of relevant topics. External links, on the other hand, are only used to link to websites that are directly pertinent to the material discussed in the article." Ah, I see the distinction better now. Thanks for the help. Stephen Malinowski

From my talk page:

Please wait for consensus before making mass moves like that. In this case, consensus has already been established, and it overrides convention. For it to change, you have to initiate a discussion first, on the talk pages. Good Shabbos, DLandTALK 23:53, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

You're right, of course. I should have looked at the talk page first. --Eliyak 08:09, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's amazing that these folks (or more likely folk) came back so quickly after the unprotect. You'd think by now that they'd forget about it or understand why it doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Alansohn 23:42, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lamm

[edit]

"Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism." - I believe the quote taken from an important and respected work of Dr. Lamm - The Royal Reach - with appropriate citation very well sums up his lifework and belongs where it was placed. Just because you do not agree does not make my action vandalism.

You'll notice that I haven't re-reverted your edit yet, but at the same time, I'm not sure that this is within the scope of the article. The article deals with broad categories of information about the school, not about individual incidents, regardless of how interesting or scandalous they may be. The Stadtmauer story is good for shock value, but doesn't really add anything to an encyclopedia article about the Yeshivah of Flatbush, which was a thriving institution decades before Alan Stadtmauer was born. I want to remove the section, but I'd like to hear your thoughts first. --DLandTALK 22:20, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's a newsworthy event for the school. Principal leaves school, OK, but principal/rabbi leaves religion, not just Orthodoxy? How often does this happen? There should be some balance from the school (if possible), but I'd have to here a clear justification for why it's not relevant at all. Alansohn 22:24, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with Alansohn. Notwithstanding the fact that he personally influenced me (he was the principal all four years I was at the school), not having his story there could be easily be considered 'whitewashing'. -eli b. Bilditup1 05:46, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please can you create a french stub for the above titled article. Thanks. FrummerThanThou 19:21, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning, can you make a french translation of the article I dont see one in the french encyclopedia? Once you create it you can call it a stub so as to encrge more edits. FrummerThanThou 20:04, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

not binding

[edit]

The cited ref goes out of its way to point out his call is non-binding; I think non-Jews could assume someone with the title "Chief Rabbi of Israel" would have authority to "excommunicate" someone. -- Kendrick7talk 23:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
