Hello! Who wants to talk about me? --Daniel J. Hakimi

Hi, I want just to attract you attention to your filling of a talk post to the page. You may want to refer yourself to the guidelines in order to rectify your post (notably the absence of a header, and not necessarily indentation for the edit because as no one responded to the post it can be edited without edit mention nor separate comment from the original and the indentation it comes with.) Confer : Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines Thanks Ius naturalis (talk) 00:56, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What? I added the header, I get that, but... I can't respond to myself? Daniel J. Hakimi (talk) 01:03, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

[edit]

Hi DanHakimi! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account has extended confirmed rights (automatically granted when an account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits).

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.

Happy editing! Selfstudier (talk) 20:49, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note that per WP:ARBECR, you are restricted to filing edit requests only. Thanks.Selfstudier (talk) 20:50, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am not new to editing Wikipedia. I have not done it as many times as some of you, and I haven't always rememberd to log in first, but I do not appreciate being "introduced" to a platform I've been editing on for over a decade. I trust that I am at least allowed to comment on talk pages in some of these topics? Daniel J. Hakimi (talk) 21:17, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, edit requests only, and they need to be straightforward per WP:EDITXY, that's it until you have 500 edits. Selfstudier (talk) 22:09, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That page does not mention straightforwardness.
This explains why these controversial topics are being run by bigots and trolls. Nobody with a life is going to make 500 edits while following a set of legalistic principles more complex than US Patent Law. And that's not even the standard to edit a page, that's the standard to *talk about editing a page*. Jeeze. Daniel J. Hakimi (talk) 22:21, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It says "specific", "uncontroversial", "necessary" and "sensible", trust you will forgive my loosely referring to that as "straightforward".
There is a recent new user, from your side of the fence, who confesses to staying up 24/7 for a week in order to get the 500 edits. Some people do that but regardless, everybody that edits the topic area has to do that if they seriously wish to contribute. Selfstudier (talk) 22:29, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that you only want dedicated trolls editing wikipedia, and not people who actually have a genuine interest in the topic, but you said I could make edit requests on talk pages. I can't seem to figure out how to do that, I only really see the option to reply, not to request permission to make the reply. Daniel J. Hakimi (talk) 15:51, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:EDITXY as I said above. Selfstudier (talk) 16:30, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, I am just putting everything together. I'm not allowed to edit controversial pages, fine. I'm not allowed to talk about controversial topics, for some reason, whatever, move past it. I *am* allowed to make a request in connection with a controversial topic... but *only if it's a typo or something else trivial*? Or, if there's already a consensus, which there isn't, because I'm the one bringing it up, right? So I'm not allowed to interact with these topics in any way whatsoever?
Do you not realize what a ridiculous policy this is? Do you not see how this gives the bigots the keys to the platform? Daniel J. Hakimi (talk) 16:45, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My advice remains the same, get the 500 edits in some non controversial areas and then you are good to go without restrictions. Selfstudier (talk) 16:52, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I somehow doubt you're going to pay me enough to quit my job, seeing as I'm not a Qatari propagandist. Daniel J. Hakimi (talk) 17:06, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
