Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Brewster's, New York. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Wow... did I blow it. It was not my intention to bypass the rules or protocols of Wikipedia. I thought I understood the process and guidelines, but it is clear from your note and my research since your posting that I skipped a few steps.

My name, as it appears here is my real name, not an alias. I am the Historian of the Village of Brewster, New York, appointed by its Mayor, Jim Schoenig. I have been a trustee of the Southeast Museum for about 16 years and a volunteer there for more than twenty. I mention this only to describe myself as a knowledgeable individual of good intention whose only goal is to increase the volume and quality of data about my local area in cyberspace. I believe that Wikipedia is the ideal host for that information.

I have been learning how to use Wikipedia incrementally and could use all the help I can get to improve the quality of my entries. I am grateful for the recommendation to merge my brief historical entry with the Brewster entry, but I am not sure how.

Please point me to the specific directions for doing so or merge the entry yourself with my blessing. I opened the Brewster entry to see where my block of text could be placed and did not recognize anything I saw there.

If you don't have the time or inclination to deal with this, I am prepared to delete my entry and substitute a #REDIRECT for the page.

Hello. Thanks for your reply. Please understand that I haven't accused you of any terrible thing! :-) The Brewster, New York article doesn't have a History section now, but you can create one, wherever you think is appropriate, by typing the level 2 heading ==History== by itself on one line, with the two equals signs on each side, and then entering content after that: anything you want to about the history, including the mention of the place first appearing on maps as "Brewster's" or "Brewster's Station". You can divide the History section up into subsections, if it's long enough to warrant it, by inserting level 3 headings for those sections delimited by three equals signs instead of two.
See WP:Citing sources for information on how to create footnotes to show the sources where the information you're writing about can be found.
Once you've moved this material there, please change it back to a redirect as I had changed it to at one point: #redirect [[Brewster, New York]]. I see that there's already a Brewster's Station, New York article that redirects to the Brewster, New York article.
Regards, —Largo Plazo (talk) 13:27, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Largo,

Thanks for your prompt reply and your interest in seeing this handled properly. I will make the modifications you suggested. I added a third and fourth redirect for Brewsters and Brewsters Station (without the apostrophes) as these appear elsewhere in Wikipedia. That's what brought me to this matter yesterday. The entry for John McCloy has his military records indicating his birthplace as Brewsters in one place and Brewster in another. I wanted to explain where that came from and while I was developing the page - you posed your question. I will complete the component offline and then post it in its proper place to the Brewster, New York entry.

Thanks again Denis Castelli (talk) 14:39, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're doing some good work (I've polished the proto-articles in your userspace a bit), but when you write biographies, I strongly recommend that you follow the advice given in WP:LEDE. For instance, the first sentence of the article on Paul Fitchen should have included some detail of why he was important (and now it does). DS (talk) 13:23, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
