Recent edit? My Bot is not editing here since two month. The wrong cswiki interwikis was added on ptwiki [1] one year ago. My bot removed many wrong interwikis in automomous mode [2], but of course the bot cannot be perfect if vandal input is used. My bot is adding a reason for removal if there is enough space in summary. Merlissimo 18:22, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Incorrect interwiki replacement

This edit is incorrect [3]. Please could you manually review what your bot is doing, and whatever matching algorithm is using. —Sladen (talk) 12:55, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Given that there are now multiple complaints, no response and that this bot seems to have only recently have its indefinite block lifted, I've reblocked it. —Ruud 12:59, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
If a change was wrong please change d:Q5334679 (or create the item if not exist). The bot algoithm analyses the existing connection and wikidata. If you really want to add a langlink to a redirect like hu:British Rail 373 sorozat) that cannot by done in wikidata. But in this case the redirect should be marked as static (__STATICREDIRECT__). In other cases interwikibots will replace redirects with their targets. Merlissimo 23:16, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
I checked all langlinks and changed the groups manually. There is a duplicate category on commons. I moved all langlink from commons:Category:TGV TMST to commons:Category:British Rail Class 373. I think the first category can now me deleted?
I synced the langlink globally:

Please explain

What is the bot doing in edits like this? Debresser (talk) 09:10, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Your Hebrew is probably far better than mine, but that change seems to be correct (he:ארץ ישראל seems indeed to be about Palestine.) The bot does seem to be making a mess in the Template namespace: it doesn't handle the /doc subpages correctly. E.g, here the redirect for ar: should have been bypassed instead of the interwiki deleted. —Ruud 12:56, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
he:ארץ ישראל is "the land of Israel", and that is what the Hebrew article is about. It also mentions Palestine, as one of the historic names for that region. However, the Hebrew article is far more encompassing.
In general I don't understand, why a bot should decide that an article is more like another article that has another name than the closest translation. I think it may be a good idea to revert all of the bots edits. Debresser (talk) 21:06, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
But the Hebrew article itself links back to en:Palestine (although the English article claims "Land of Israel" would also be אֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל in Hebrew, so I guess it's either a homonym or politically complex issue?) From the edit summary it appears the bot tries to find strongly connected components in the graph of interwiki links, which is often, but not always a sound method of finding interwiki errors, as the interwiki graph almost, but not quite, induces a partitioning/equivalence relation on the set of all Wikipedia articles in all languages. —Ruud 19:41, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
It wasn't hard to fix that interwiki on the Hebrew article. :) Debresser (talk) 19:58, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Since wikidata is enabled you can change it easily on wikidata. [4] My bot does not add langlinks to "normal" pages on wiki with wikibase client enabled.
@Ruud Koot: interwikibots are working good on a conflict free interwikigroup. My bot has some rules how to split these conflict group in some few cases (as is connung on all wikipedia except enwiki since two years without problems). Wikidata also uses this concept. If you want to link another page that is not about the same topic, but related you should link to section or (mostly better) static redirects. Merlissimo 23:31, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
What was wrong with the template namespace edit? Editing interwikis on subpage isn't a problem for my bot on all namespace. There is no special rule for enwiki template namespace needed. One target was deleted (if the bot starts at mtwiki in future the new mt template will be added again, and the other one was a redirect. The bot did not added the other arwiki template name because of wikibase client. Merlissimo 00:35, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Your bot deleted an interwiki link to ar: in this edit. I don't see why it should have been, nor do I understand the reasoning you gave above: the link is not present in Wikidata.
The edit summary you bot made ("ar:قالب:Pl (strong connection between (2) en:Template:Pl icon and ar:قالب:Pl icon)") suggests you don't take the /doc subpage into account when detecting connections. (The interwiki links are located on a subpage, but to backlink of course does not point to the /doc subpage. Serveral interwiki bots are not allowed to edit the Template: namespace, because they do not handle this case correctly.)
Ruud 14:02, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
The summary is always the same. My bot could also handle at doc pages containing langlinks for main template and itself to other docpages. Included langlinks can be only a problem if that are also visible when viewing the included page because includeonly/onlyinclude is missing. Merlissimo 08:57, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Alright? But why did it delete the interwiki to ar:? Do you think it should have deleted the interwiki link to ar:, and if so, why? —Ruud 10:30, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, removal was correct, because the old arwiki langlink is a redirect. Adding the new ar langlink (the redirect target) was not done locally on enwiki because of wikidata. But creating this item on wikidata failed because of an internal rule (it is not conflict free). This is only a temporary problem until sb. (in this case i did this already) fixes the problems (there are pages on wikidata listing these problems). The arwiki template (and in this case also the other wikis) still link to enwiki. So the information that both articles belong together is not lost. Merlissimo 17:12, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
I changed back to MerlLinkBot for controlled edits to solve the conflict also on enwiki and created wikidata item. The langlink removed are all adding the code "(pl)" instead of a localised string. Merlissimo 18:15, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Please someone/the owner/the programmer/etc update/reprogram/disable/delete this robot.
It deleted this link from this page, with this explanation:
MerlIwBot... Robot: Removing ro (strong connection between (2) en:List of science fiction television programs and ro:Listă de seriale științifico-fantastice)
I have added back in the link above, and will do so every time this robot attempts to delete it again by mistake.
Thanks for listening.

The old ro langlink was a redirect. The new ro langlink was not added because of wikidata. But adding this item to wikidata failed because my bot is not allowed to mix article and wikipedia category namespace in on wikidata item. Merlissimo 17:03, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Please also see this where the bot removes a link to fa and now there is no link to fa on the article (i.e. it is different to the case above) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 12:16, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
As written in summary the fa-langlinks was removed because en:Deposit account already contains the same langlink. The fa article also links to article Deposit account. So why do you think that this removal was wrong? Merlissimo 14:20, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Nagorno-Karabakh Republic

Hello,

You removed links on the English page Nagorno-Karabakh Republic linking to the French Wiki page and the Italian Wiki page, stating that the two pages were more closely related to the English Wiki page on the region, not the republic.

However, I think this is a mistake. If you look at the French page, for example, the flag of the Republic is displayed and the article re-states its subject as "la République du Haut-Karabagh." This, clearly, is not about the region alone; it is about the country.

Perhaps this is an issue that stems from having separate articles in English for the region and the Republic, but as the situation stands now, I believe that the links should be added back. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by DividedFrame (talkcontribs) 21:09, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
