The Artemis Fowl WikiProject

[edit]

Hi. In the last month I have discovered the Artemis Fowl WikiProject and have slowly but surely been making progress. I have, however, noticed that no one else seems to be doing anything. So, it's as simple as this. Respond to this message, or your name gets removed from the participants list and I assume leadership of the WikiProject, because I will actually get something done. You have exactly 1 week, or 7 days, or 168 hours. They all mean the same thing.

However, please know that this is nothing personal against you. This is a generic message sent to every person on the participants list. Thanks for your co-operation. -007bond aka Matthew G aka codingmasters 10:46, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Hello, Minglex, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  -- Francs2000 11:52, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seen the newest irreverent edits on The Latymer School? Now I finally know how the strike happened. --AdamM 18:22, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic! I wonder who is the vigilante editor in search of the truth? By the way, nice detective work finding me! --Minglex 18:34, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not too difficult, thanks to Nick Worth and your artistic additions to his user page. --AdamM 19:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't you heard about WP:AUTO? --AdamM10:20, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-humor

[edit]

Why did you make such a destructive edit on anti-humor? Andre (talk) 19:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

[edit]

Thanks for your kind words on my user page! I will move them to my talk page, but I appreciate it :) Nach0king 00:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't create duplicate articles. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:34, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. You mustn't move articles from one title to another by cutting and psting the contents; that loses the edit History. Moves must be done using the "Move" button.
  2. The title you're trying to change to is poor English; we normally insist on correct punctuation and capitalisation, even if publishers, record companies, etc., don't. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:41, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Although most often used as full stops, exclamation and question marks can stand in for any stop, including commas and semi-colons. The exclamation mark is ungrammatical here in any case ("The Pirates" is clearly not an exclamation), but given that it's there, it must be acting as a comma at most, as "in an adventure with scientists" can't grammatically follow anything else; it's not a complete sentence or even a complete clause. Prepositions shouldn't be capitalised unless they start or end a sentence. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:07, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oldcoatofarms.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Thanks for uploading Image:Oldcoatofarms.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Picture of Jimbo

[edit]

Hi, I took and uploaded the new picture of Jimmy Wales on his user page. I mentioned to him that I didn't like the picture on his page and volunteered to take a new one. He said he had been meaning to get a better picture, and agreed to let me take a new one. I don't know if he has seen it yet or not, but I think it should be his call whether to keep it or revert to the old one. -- Samuel Wantman 19:50, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the misunderstanding. As I did not see the vandalism, it appeared as though people were reverting to the older photo. When a picture looks like vandalism, vandal patrollers need to check if the picture has been vandalized or the page has been vandalized. In your case, you reverted the wrong one. Once the offending image was removed, it is very difficult to know what your intentions were unless they were explained in the edit comment or a comment on a talk page. Your only comment was that you were reverting. Yes, I should have assumed good faith, but then so should have you. -- Samuel Wantman 20:20, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Booshyetti.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Booshyetti.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Non-free use disputed for Image:Homepagebadge4.gif

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Homepagebadge4.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:11, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Artemis Fowl needs your help!

WP:FOWL has only four users who contribute regularly! It would be fantastic if you started editing within the WikiProject again, as we need all the help we can get. The new logo! Greetings from the Artemis Fowl Project. Your name is listed on our participants page, but we are unsure of how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the Project's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the Project, please add your name to the active list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the current work. On behalf of the Project, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Homepagebadge4.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Homepagebadge4.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:49, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Abingdoni.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

License tagging for File:Galapagos tortoise distribution Line diagram.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Galapagos tortoise distribution Line diagram.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:06, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Lonseome george.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 21:33, 30 August 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 21:33, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Galapagos Tortoise Subfamily

[edit]

In response to your question on my talk page.

The reason for sending readers back to the Family for subfamily is twofold. First I think there is generally little to be said about subfamilies other than their existence, usage and references, this can all be achieved on the Family page saving on the time to make a decent page that is really nothing more than a link page. Second I did not have the time to check if a page for the Testudinae existed and did not want to create a dead link. If you look at the Chelidae page and any members of this Family you will see I have done a similar thing here. However I have ensured that the page on Chelidae did discuss the subfamilies in the taxonomy section. I feel the Testudinidae page should do a similar thing allowing a reasonable linking of subfamily pages to the family page where all this information would be available. I will go through the Family page and edit it as needed later today. Hope this answers your question. Faendalimas (talk) 15:34, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much, I understand now. Is it the case that the subfamily as it appears on the page 'Testudininae' (sic) is a typo for 'Testudinae'? Minglex (talk) 16:13, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Message for project members

[edit]

Hello WP:TURTLE member, the project needs your help. We have recently created a portal (Portal:Turtles), and would like you to choose two or three captivating turtle images for its "Selected picture" section. These images must to be chosen from commons and have a small (three sentences or so) paragraph describing the species in the picture. When you have several that you like, please place the images and a possible caption on the portal's talk page (Portal talk:Turtles). Thank you so much project member!--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 16:08, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1. Please go ahead and strike out sections of reviewer responses corrected. (If you decide not to change, that's fine. Just helpful to see what was done and not.)

Disregard. I moved my long review onto talk.

2. I'm starting to go through it for prose. Will take a while. Pretty decent shape, but just long. No major changes (I think) just some more polishing for readability.

3. Some permissions image issues came up.

4. Hope you are well and the reviews are not getting to you. TCO (talk) 04:37, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:38, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Galapagos Review

[edit]

Sasata returned to offer some more commentary on the references. I fixed a few things, you may have to roll up your sleeves and dig into them a little (okay a lot) more. There are questions about page numbers, authors, publishers, and all sorts of other goodies. Be swift though, people are getting antsy.--NYMFan69-86 (talk) 02:56, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Keep after it, man!

[edit]

I think everyone likes you, and I especially liked that you did a topic that was so important. And also included BOTH science and fun stuff. And did not make it unreadable biology faux science paper. So everyone "wants you to win".

Gotta dig down and bring it up to standards on refs. Hopefully, the whole thing was a learning process on ref and image quality...and helps all your future articles.

Get it done! We want you to succeed!!!

File source problem with File:Hammerlollipop.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Hammerlollipop.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Replaceable fair use File:Oldcoatofarms.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Oldcoatofarms.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 12:00, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
