I would like to add that your link was just to amazon.com -- which makes it advertising. You also put your link to Amazon.com at the top of the article before the article even began -- which was not the correct place to put it. If your link was to a book listed on amazon.com then that would have more of a chance. I recommend that you put a link to his book on Amazon.com at the end of the article as a reference, but please understand that a book listing on Amazon.com is usually not good enough to make a book (or its author) notable. Please note that according to the {{helpme}} template, I am obligated to remove the {{helpme}} tag because a) someone has come to help (me) and b) the {{helpme}} tag attracts a lot of attention by alerting users on IRC and on CAT:HELP.

Now that I have come to assist the user (or you), I recommend that you put up the necessary article templates which are more specific (you can find these here Article 'cleanup' templates, and place that on the article Moncy Pothen.

I have reviewed the entire history of the article. I have made the following conclusions:

• According to the log history of the article, it has never been deleted (if an article has been deleted and then recreated, its deletion history can be found by clicking on View logs of this page on the article's history page.
  
• The article has had the prod tag added and taken away and re-added (although 20 days apart).
  
• The user User:Bakasuprman when he removed the {{prod}} tag noted "rm prod, hes notable indo-nostalgic writer" (although this does not necessarily make him right) (So at least one advanced wikipedian believes in this articles notability -- although this must obviously be supported by correct citations)
  
• Google has ~666 hits for Moncy Pothen, and ~13400 hits for his book Beneath the Clouds and Coconut Leaves including a listing of his book on Amazon.com ^{Note that the article in question is about the author Moncy Pothen and not the book Beneath the Clouds and Coconut Leaves}
• The article has not yet been put up for deletion review (ever).

My advice is as follows (in this order):

1. First find a decent reference to him and his book Beneath the Clouds and Coconut Leaves -- like the amazon one which is apparently commercial. Why can't we use the Amazon.com link as a reference? (Surely that doesn't count as a commercial link?) Perhaps we can find a listing of the book on the ISBN?
   
2. Check carefully if nothing has been published mentioning this author: perhaps a newspaper article reviewing his book.
   
3. Once theses above attempts have been properly made, if you still feel the article does not meet notability requirements, file for AfD (Articles for Deletion).

AFD: Beneath the Clouds and Coconut Leaves

Thank-you Maustrauser. I have had a reasonably good look into published referenes to the book and I can't seem to find any. The book definitely exists because you can buy it on Amazon and the book itself has an ISBN # -- but the question is whether an Amazon link is good enough to make the book notable -- I don't think it does.

Just so we're clear though, at the moment I'm busy trying to look at the article on the book's author Moncy Pothen -- because there doesn't seem to be any published references to him either (aside from the book itself) meaning that he may not be notable enough.

It may just have to be one of those cases where we say "Sorry, it's just not notable enough" and one day when he gets some published review or writes a few more books he'll come back onto Wikipedia. But let me get some more feedback. What do you think about the Amazon.com listing? Is that a good enough reference to list the author on Wikipedia? Rfwoolf 07:47, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

An Amazon.com listing actually isn't good enough because anyone can get a listing for their publication. I could tomorrow. I ship the books and pay Amazon a 60% commission for the business they send my way. I don't think it meets our notability guidelines. Maustrauser 07:51, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Message to Nribooks: Regarding Moncy Pothen

Hi Nribooks. As you can see from the posts above we are trying to constructively review the problems with the article on Moncy Pothen and his book Beneath the Clouds and Coconut Leaves.
Wikipedia is a great place on the internet, but at the same time it can be a very strange and confusing place, which is why it's important that you understand exactly why people think those articles should be deleted -- and the policies on Wikipedia that would protect those decisions.
With regard to the article on Moncy Pothen, this is an autobiographical article on the author of a book. Autobiography articles have some of the strictest rules on Wikipedia when it comes to verifiability and notability. Why? Because if false things get said about someone that is alive, Wikipedia could possibly be sued, and the press has been very quick to criticise Wikipedia for some of its false information on actual people.
So most importantly, that means that a lot of the information you have on the author Moncy Pothen needs to be verifiable, which can sometimes be difficult -- your link to his book on Amazon.com for example, is a good reference that he wrote a book, but his bio on Amazon.com could have been written by anybody (even you) which makes that site a bad reference for any of the other information.
The next problem is something called notability. Wikipedia doesn't believe in having an article on every single author who has ever published a book. Instead the author needs to be notable -- which usually means he/she has to have been mentioned in a few published places (usually more than one place) such as newspaper articles, or magazine articles, etc.
My point is... That if you really want your articles on both the author Moncy Pothen and his book Beneath the Clouds and Coconut Leaves to remain on Wikipedia, can you help find published sources that verify some of the information?

"A topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject itself and each other."

The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth.
