A tag has been placed on Papa Hawwy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself, at Papa Hawwy. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Please stop

[edit]

Please stop repeatedly recreating an autobiographical article - Wikipedia is not about YOU. You are not a notable person according to Wikipedia's notability guidelines for people, and therefore are not worthy of inclusion as the subject of an encyclopedia article. If and when you accomplish something in life that is notable and covered by reliable, independent sources, someone else will likely create an article about you. In the meantime, try editing a topic that is not related to you. If you have no interest in writing about anything other than yourself, you are welcome to use one of many alternative outlets. Thank you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:18, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Contesting Editing Ban

[edit]

Hello

I am concerned with the manner and the way I have been banned from editing on Wikipedia. My article on Papa Hawwy was true and my sources was consulting his family in a private interview.

I was notified that I was building an autobiography. This is extremely false. I am in complete and utter disgrace in the way I have been treated. How do you possibly figure that Papa Hawwy is not a notable or famous person?! He is an extremely popular figure here in the Macarthur region and there are many posters of him around the area and I often receive Hawwy-related papers in the letterbox. If you are concerned over my user-name and that it is 'Papahawwy', then I can assure you that I am not him and just writing an autobiography, I am just a fan.

Please take this letter seriously as I have done no wrong and no harm. I want my say to be heard.

Thank you

Please read Wikipedia:Notability, Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources, Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. These policies will explain how your editing was lacking. To properly request unblock, read Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks and use the template provided in the block notice. Tiderolls 11:58, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In that case, your username is inappropriate. But this doesn't address your totally inappropriate contributions so far. You are blocked by community consensus. If you think your edits were worthy of an encyclopedia, you lack sufficient competence to edit here and would be happier someplace else. Yamla (talk) 11:07, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hello, I still have a few questions as to how I was blocked. My first one is - Why would you ban someone over their username? I understand if it was vulgar, racist ect. , but I am simply a fan of Papa Hawwy. Would this mean that my ban would be lifted if I changed my username? I was advised in the response that my username was “inappropriate”. I understand that it may not have been the best choice, however, I do not see this as inappropriate. Could someone please tell me how they define inappropriate? Then, I was told that “This doesn’t address your (my) totally inappropriate contributions so far.” Once again, I do not understand how my innocent edits could be considered inappropriate. I have had first hand information from Hawwy’s family and himself, therefore making my edits a primary source. I define ‘inappropriate’ as vulgar behaviour or behaviour that should not be tolerated. My actions have only benefited the community and added content to this website. If you’re really worried about false information, than I would be more than happy for you to contact me personally; I would be able to discuss my edits with you along with Papa Hawwy. The next thing that I was notified about was that I “have been blocked by community consensus.” As this statement may be true, I believe that making this statement with no proof is unreasonable. As the person who responded to me would say, it was ‘inappropriate’. I would like to know, if I’m allowed, who it was that agreed upon this decision. I would assume that ‘community consensus’ would mean that the decision to block me from editing would be a general opinion, not just an opinion by 3 or 4 people. To make this statement true, this would have to be proven throughout the ‘community’. If it wasn’t general and only a few decided on it, then it’s certainly not ‘community consensus’. Finally, I feel as though I have been attacked for my editing skills as I was told that I “Lack sufficient competence to edit here.” I believe that there was little research done on Papa Hawwy as what I wrote was completely true and was from a primary source. They also questioned my thinking, as they said “If you think your edits were worthy of an encyclopedia, you lack sufficient competence to edit here and would be happier someplace else.” How do they know that my thinking is wrong? This sounds like a personal opinion, not a general one. I would accept a general opinion, but I’m not comfortable with allowing one person to speak on behalf of the communitie’s different opinions and Wikipedia him/herself. Thank you for reading this. I hope that each of my statements and arguments are reviewed justly. Thank you.Papahawwy (talk) 05:23, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Before we come to the now-deleted Papa Hawwy article you created let's examine "my sources was consulting his family in a private interview" and "I have had first hand information from Hawwy’s family and himself, therefore making my edits a primary source." That is not acceptable sourcing for a Wikipedia article. Wikipedia requires independent reliable secondary sources (click those links for more information) which can be checked by readers, and is not an appropriate outlet for original research based on private interviews - that is not the job of an encyclopedia. (I originally posted that part as a comment below, but I then decided to review the unblock request)

Now we come to the article itself. To me it reads like a prank or a bit of trolling, and even if we take it seriously (for the sake of WP:AGF) it's totally unsourced, I can find no sources whatsoever about this person, and at best it's a clearly non-notable person. If you think this rubbish has any place in an encyclopedia, you do not belong here. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:28, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • To address one aspect of your statement, your username is "Papahawwy" and you edited about an individual known as "Papa Hawwy". Unless you are that individual, you cannot use their name as your username. That's why your name is inappropriate and against the username policy. If you want to indicate that you are a fan of this person, you should suggest a new username that does so, such as "PapaHawwyfan23" or something similar. 331dot (talk) 09:07, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I accept that. How do I change my username? Also, what about everything else I mentioned? Papahawwy (talk) 10:49, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have altered your unblock request to add a place for you to suggest a new username. Please remove the words "new username" and put your choice of name. I have not fully analyzed this situation and can't comment on anything else at this time, I only wanted to address the username aspect. 331dot (talk) 10:52, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
