Pound sign
[edit]I reverted your edit because the symbol you tried to use is not a pound sign (U+00A3 £ POUND SIGN), it is a lira sign (U+20A4 ₤ LIRA SIGN). Whether a pound sign is written with one or two bars is a type-design choice, no doubt you already know that the same goes for the dollar sign: see allograph. For background, see pound sign#Double bar style. This issue is not unique to Australia: people in the UK who went to school before the mid 70s learned to write with two bars and later kids learnt one-bar. When writing a price sign in a market, it doesn't matter but if you use the wrong symbol in a computer system, it is likely to be misinterpreted.
However, there is currently nothing on the Australian pound article that mentions the shape of pound sign used, so you might like to add a sentence or two in the banknote section?
Finally, please don't be discouraged by having your first edits reverted: this is how Wikipedia works (see WP:Bold, revert, discuss). You can spend weeks studying the Wikipedia:Manual of Style or do like most people and just bump into things until you get the hang of it.
