Rev. John Campbell D.D. (1724-1772)

[edit]

I was very interested to read the information on the above at the Richard Graves (reverend) page, as I'm another of the latter's descendants. I have Dr Campbell as husband of Sarah Young and father of several children, including the grandmother of Sir Richard Francis Burton, but nothing on his ancestry save a tradition that he was of the Argyll family. The Campbells of Liston Hall and the Argyll family are distinct from the Campbells of Fairfield, although they were linked by later marriages; the first Campbell of Liston Hall, William (d.1787) had a legitimate son called John (d.1826)- might the Rev. John be an illegitimate son of William, or of one of the other brothers of the fourth duke? Any further information would be gratefully received. Mvconnolly 14:20, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
